Probably is the epitome of soul vs soulless. The early videos felt like they were coming from a place of familiarity (complaints James and/or Mike actually had from trying to play the game seriously) or at the very least relatability (issues with the game that are either plainly obvious to any gamer or are amusing for one reason or another). That was before the Screenwave deal. They built a studio so James doesn't have to have his home intruded on to film anymore, they write the scripts and do everything, he just shows up and reads the scripts. Last episodes James actually wrote were Earthbound and The Immortal. Shit like today's video or Ecco is written by committee by Justin Silverman and co. and that is why it feels so forced and soulless. Screenwave chooses games to appease the algorithm which is why they had James reviewing Kingdom Hearts right before a big release despite him never playing any of them and knowing nothing about it.
