Why is every River City Ransom game fucked up in a completely different way?

RCR original is as obtuse as any other NES game, but you figure they'd streamline that a bit if they were gonna keep making games in the franchise.

But decades later they put out River City Ransom Underground which did a lot better for the RPG and combat feel, but you still couldn't tell what items did until after you bought them, and even then you needed a notepad or a walkthrough to keep track, and the map is needlessly hard to follow.

Then River City Girls fixed THOSE problems but dropped a lot of the interesting combo feel and expanded roster of RCRU and added Youtubers to voice everyone

Why the hell can't there just be an ideal River City game?

Whatever, dude. Nes have a better game called Double Dragon II.

There was also Tokyo Rumble, which I felt was an acceptable streamlining of RCR.

I don't understand the fascination with this game, the "good version" of it would be basically any other belt scroller that doesn't revolve around grinding a million identical enemies for l00t, including Renegade/Doki Doki Kunio. Or else Super Dodge Ball.

Is there even a perfect RCR game?
>The original is great, but the grinding
>Period Drama has too much slowdown
>Tokyo Rumble is too short
>Rival Shodown is Dynasty Warriors
>Kobayashi-san is too limited

You still need to buy the items in order to know what they do (at least specifically like the exact amount of healing).
Also that game is ruined by having auto save that you can't opt out of. If you use items in a boss fight but still lose, the game auto saves and respawns you just before the fight, but you don't get your items back or the money you used to buy the items, so you're forced to grind.
