Is it too late to collect 6th gen games?

>> No.7324195

DC - Not really.
GC - Yes.
PS2 - Mostly.
Xbox - Not really.

No exaggeration, 8 years ago was too late from DC I was buying them up at SGC cons, and they were not cheap then.

There is also men of valor and vietcong purple haze.

Too late to get $2 games? Yes.

Too late before the prices climb to $100 per game instead of $50? No.

My long experience of collecting electronic stuff taught me that it never stops rising. You think the price is ludicrous and that it will never go higher? Ten years later, the price doubled.

Don't be that Anon in a few years who will post "I wish I bought games when they were still affordable in 2021".

>> No.7324272

What should I get first there are so many games I've always wanted should I start with the most expensive or least expensive?

>> No.7324285

There's no reason to collect when you can just play game "backups".

>> No.7324291

>>7324212
Most of the good DC games rarely break the $50 mark complete.

>>7324229
The good ones are.

>>7324240
>cons
That's your problem. Cons are almost always the most expensive places to buy from, unless it's the final hours and a seller is looking to offload as much as they can so they don't have to cart it all home.

>> No.7324316

>>7324212
Dreamcast doesn't have as many MUST HAVE collector games on it so you can still pick up a lot of stuff that people don't care about collecting.
Meanwhile the cube and the PS2 both are much more heavily valued by collectors and their stuff is pretty high in price as a result.

>> No.7324328

>>7324316
I still have some of my PS2 and Gamecube games though not as many as I would like. I sold my Xbox stuff after the console broke. I guess that speaks to the quality of it since these two are still going strong. Is that why Xbox isn't valued? Its a fragile piece of shit?

>> No.7324405

>>7324272
Start with the ones you want the most desu. The price is not that relevant.

>> No.7324480

>>7324405
Theres quite a wide price range on the ones I want though. From $10 Soul Calibur 3 and $15 Timesplitters 2 s to $100 God Hand and $300 Haunting Ground.

Probably get a couple cheap ones to enjoy in the meantime before big spending.

>> No.7324528

Only the hidden gems. Games people actually bought and played back then like Metal Gear Solid 2 and Devil May Cry don't ever cost more than $25. Only exceptions are the Silent Hill games.

>> No.7324543

>>7324230
Most of the good 6th gen ones are also on PC. Hell, most play better on PC (eg. Vietcong). And then you even have some exclusives (eg. Line of Sight: Vietnam)

>>7324480
When do you suppose 6th gen repros will make an appearance?

>>7324528
Silent Hill is only ridiculously expensive on PC. The console versions are more expensive than average but definitely not wallet-clearing tier

>> No.7324545

>>7324316
I've found Dreamcast games to be about as expensive as Gamecube games. For the really good games, the average price is at least $50 with many like Power Stone, SA2 and Skies of Arcadia eadily breaking triple digits.

To put things into perspective for you, Super Smash Bros. Melee, the best selling Gamecube game of all time with probably around 8million copies printed, runs in the 60-80 range for fucking disc only regardless of condition.
The BEST SELLING game with the most copies sold. The Gamecube ship has sailed for you.

>> No.7324608

>>7324602

>> No.7324623

>>7324608
objectively, Melee should be worth like 8 dollars for only the disc, 15-20 for the disc with either the manual or the case, and around 30-45 for a full box.
There are more copies of this game out there than any other game for the system, the game isn't rare, fucking everybody who had a Gamecube played it.

>> No.7324639

>>7324623
Yeah but growing up my friends used to chuck cases and manuals im the trash and scratch the fuck out of discs. I was more responsible but obviously not too much since I sold most of it. Kids who grew up with gamecubes now have disposable income. Most of them are ecelebs too and shill gamecube games as the best ever.

>> No.7324917

Too late for Gamecube, at least for now. Who knows how that market could change in the future. As a previous poster said, Dreamcast was pretty expensive to collect for years ago, but has dropped substantially in recent years. Same could happen to the Gamecube.

gamecube is still fairly recentish, retro wise. A lot of people still have gamecube shit laying around, I dont see this price spike lasting forever once people get bored of gamecube.

Question is will the 7th gen see a similar nostalgia spike?

>When do you suppose 6th gen repros will make an appearance?
GBA has had repros for years, but the PS2/Cube/Xbox? Never. Not worth the effort, those consoles will not run counterfeit games without modding. And for Gamecube in particular miniDVDs are pretty rare and the drives that can read and write to them even rarer.

That's what I've been thinking, its hard to imagine most of the games on those systems gaining much value when they were mostly shat out on almost every system including PC.

i have a wii with usb loader gx and nintendont so i can play GC games, a softmodded xbox and a ps2 with a network adapter and FHDB installed.

i'm looking to sell my ps2 games since they've gone up in value (which makes no sense at all since disks will just die eventually anyway).

collecting cartridge stuff i can understand but with disks its like collecting avocados.
