What's the oldest game you've actually completed? How does it hold up today?

Something on NES most likely. Most games held up fine. Yet the mentality of arcade quarter snatching was still a thing in most NES games. SNES games are where developers finally found the perfect balance between maintaining difficulty yet having a good balance of QOL features.

Beneath Apple Manor
A roguelike that predates Rogue, and which is much more beatable.
The game is from 1978, but I played the 1983 DOS remake.

Zork, last year.
Aged perfectly well.

There's no endgame in this IBM game. You're just trying to get a hiscore for laffs n brags.

>Oldest
I guess Budokan: The Martial Spirit. Or Hugo 3, the jungle one. Not sure which is older.
Budokan is still a great game. Hugo series of adventure games have always been shit, but it's a quirky indie I guess?

Possibly Space Harrier, it is still the best game ever

Nice. Guess that makes Rogue a BAM-like.

Oldest games I've completed are Adventure (1979) and Superman (1979).
Adventure holds up despite its admittedly terrible graphics. Remember to play Game 2 after Game 1 (tutorial).
Superman has a really bizarre overworld layout that takes some getting used to. Nevertheless, it's a fairly ambitious game - with the first scripted sequence (blowing up the bridge), and "X-Ray vision" (looking at the screens to your left/right/up/down). It's technically the first action-adventure game released.

I've beaten one round of Breakout (1976), but you have to beat it twice in a row to complete it.

Ultima 1
The space segment was fucking weird and kind of annoying to play but otherwise it was fine for what it was

I love Alley Cat and I've even played it on a real IBM XT but yeah it just loops continuously and has no "end."

for what ever reason, I can't into this game.

Ultima 1. Holds up surprisingly well actually. Didn't like 2 though.

Super Mario Bros 2 on my dad's old NES.

Probably Adventure for the 2600, that's the oldest one I can remember beating, most other games I play from that far back don't actually have an end.

Isnt there a screen where you get to the other cat and make hearts?

Looking through release years I think Rogue is the oldest game I've actually beat, though I didn't do so until many many years later. Played shit tons of Asteroids but never beat it, not even sure if it has an ending. I still haven't played Beneath Apple Manor, but really should.

>>7373220
I'm always so happy to hear others mention Budokan. It's clunky but I love that game.
