I grew up playing Shinobi 3 and Revenge but was always firmly in the 3 > RoS camp. Over the years RoS grew on me to the point I was questioning my ranking. Last night I popped in 3 for the first time in awhile and... It's over Return of the Ninja Master bros.... Lots of great things going for 3 but overall RoS is the better game. Thanks for reading my blog. Oh, and Ninja game thread.

They're both good but for both being "Super Shinobi" games they're more different than one might expect. Revenge has some dickish moments, though.

The GG games are underrated.

Revenge has a lot of dick moves in it. The long jump in 7-1 and the labyrinth at the end can both go and fuck themselves. 3 had plenty of hard moments, but significantly less where I felt cheated.

Someone please tell me what's the difference between NGB and Sigma and why do some people say that Sigma should be avoided at all costs and others say that Sigma is completely fine?
I don't have an Xbox so it's either emulating Black or going with PC release of Sigma if that matters.
Please help.

shinobi x is a really unique melee focused sidescroller, not many games I've encountered that have the same flow as it.

They removed some "puzzles" i.e walking back a corridor to pickup a item and added a second playable and it's that character that's the point of contention in the case of NG1. It's mostly because her fighting style isn't suited to the enemies she fights so it drags on. That's all really.

Sigma cuts some stuff from the original game some people (myself included) enjoy while shoving in another playable character some people (again, myself included) don't care for. It's a relatively conservative update and is good on every platform it's available on, so if it's more accessible than the original go for Sigma.

I never played Shinobi 3 because RoS pissed me off so fucking much with bullshit parts. I've heard Shinobi 3 is a lot more seamless to play, but I was so frustrated.

S3 is easier and Joe himself is more fun to play as. If RoS wasn't your cup of tea I bet you would enjoy S3.

Love me some Revenge and 3 but… I kneel to the reboot

Fun game. Love the short sendoffs he gives to his fellow clansmen after a long combo.

I liked the 3DS game's combat, but the platforming is shit due to the shifting camera angles on a 2D plane.

Black is the original game but with added content. New weapons, enemies and difficulties, along with other minor changes. It’s generally considered the best version of the game

Sigma was a grounds up remake. It adds a new character to play as and gives the game a gloss of paint, but removes cutscenes, bosses and changes enemy behaviour, as well as some censorship. Level designs are also slightly different, there are less enemies (but they’re more aggressive) and some gameplay elements are altered (some of which break the game in half). It’s generally agreed upon that you should play Black and not Sigma (and with the sequel, play the original 360 release)

Good game that could've been outstanding with a little more time and polish.

Yeah some of the visuals (not counting Hotsuma and his sexy scarf) look a bit ugly and the roof top levels are absolutely hideous

The 3DS game is pretty good. The shifting perspectives isn't often a problem. My biggest issue is that checkpoints and level lengths feel uneven in how they're separated. It's a shame it went overlooked. I think the game would've been more successful if it had been released on all consoles on digital platforms instead of the 3DS, especially that early in the 3DS's life.

It shows they devs were really new to the platform as they could have used data streaming to increase local poly count instead of tying to make levels fit all in memory at once.

The last level was still hell with having to jump on literal footholds and not be able to get a clear look at the landing.

The First Samurai on the SNES was one of the first games I ever played as a kid. I’ve never heard anyone mention that game. It took me multiple years to find the name of the game again.

I think considering it was a dreamcast game that had to get fixed up to work on PS2, I'd say it's pretty good

I'm aware of the constraints, but it's nevertheless the case that levels are repetitive in both aesthetic and structure. I like the game a lot nonetheless.

I kind of hope theres a build for the dreamcast that gets found
