The concept most matters is humane, human, humanity... animals let their weak and old die and are prone to killing their children when they are unfit. Here we have the same issue. Killing the stupid, the old and the sick and aborting the unwanted, the unneeded and the diseased.
So I think it is humane to employ resources, even if it has no perceptible benefit to others. And on the other hand, if euthanasia and abortion are humane, then who is the executioner, the hangman and the butcher? Why would we have to impose the sin of killing others to someone? And God forbid, someone volunteers.
