Hey guys, you know what released today? Other than a bunch of good streams?
Cover's Fiscal Year 2024 First Quarter Earnings Report and Summary! And I just spent a few hours going through it, summarizing it, and making a few assumptions that I thought would be useful to you guys here. Heads up, though: I am splitting the post into multiple chunks, so be ready for a few big text blocks to hit the fucking wall here in a bit. With that in mind: Here you go!
BASIC REVENUE STATISTICS:
>Net Revenue: 5,142,000,000 Yen ($35,800,000). Up 42.8% from last year.
>Gross Profit (Net Revenue - Costs of Goods Sold): 2,634,000,000 Yen ($18,340,000). Up 73.9% from last year.
>Operating Income(Gross Profit - Operating Costs[think wages, office supplies, bills, etc]): 895,000,000 Yen ($6,232,000). Up 147.5% from last year(!!).
>Net Income (Operating Income - Interest, Taxes): 621,000,000 Yen ($4,324,000). Up 129.5% from last year.

REVENUE STREAM BREAKDOWN:
>Delivery/Content (Revenue from live streaming. Memberships, Superchats, AdSense, etc): 1,651,000,000 Yen ($11,495,000). Up 13.9% from last year.
>Live Events (Concert revenue, HoloExpo, Conventions, etc): 376,000,000 Yen ($2,618,000). Up 94% from last year.
>Merchandise Sales: 2,091,000,000 Yen ($14,559,000). Up 32.8% from last year.
>Licenses/Tie-Ins (Brand deals, Baseball game hostings, etc): 1,023,000,000 Yen ($7,123,000). Up 167.7% from last year(!!).

After that, they record brand expansion numbers, but calculate it by the total number of Subscribers, so it isn't too important of a metric to dwell on for us. They also showcase that song covers are especially useful in expanding brand awareness for Hololive.

GRANDULAR NOTES ON REVENUE STREAMS:
>Cover highlights the fact that merchandising and licensing deal opportunities have been expanding due to the continued growth in relevance of Hololive as an IP.
>They note that merch is mainly driven by sales of anniversary event items and birthday celebrations, so that IS still the main driver of said category. It is noted that seasonality does cause fluxuation in the profits of that sector. As a personal note, I do wonder if Cover explicitly chooses birthdays, and possibly themes, to correspond to good financial periods for sales of merch.

COST OF GOODS SOLD
>For Cost of Goods Sold, it's broken down into four categories: Performer's Fee, Outsourcing Costs, Event Fees, and Other.
>The largest cost is "Other," which could be who knows how much stuff. All we know for sure is that it is related specifically to the Production Costs of Cover's Goods and Services. It does not include any of the Operating Costs, which feature later. Just assume it's general expenses that would come with production for Content that the Holos don't pay for themselves.
>"Event Fees," or the cost involved in holding events such as Lives, Expos and Concerts, are relatively constrained. However, the fees involved for "HoloFES/Hololive EXPO" are massive in comparison to other quarters where there is no Festival. 4thFES/EXPO cost Cover 1,314,000,000 Yen ($9,149,000).
>Outsourcing Costs are likely related to the production of things such as HoloEarth, if it were done by contractors, as well as manufacturing of Merch, although I imagine there are Merch costs which are in the "Other" category as well.

Okay, I finished reading the Cover document for investors. There isn't TOO much to say, unless you're really into the investment minutia of stuff like growth ratios, revenue stream diversification, and business terminology out the wazoo. But there is some stuff of note for you guys, so I'll post the notes I took while reading for everyone.
Holo Financial Notes:
>Superchats and Memberships: 38% of Revenue
>Concerts/Events: 16%
>Merch: 35%
>Collabs/Licenses: 10%
>All Revenue sources list "Profit share with VTuber" as a major cost, meaning the girls make good money on each
>Longterm COVER Business Plan:
>Step 1: Continue growing as usual
>Step 2: Make more licensing deals and fan events while continuing with Vtubing as usual
>Step 3: Launch HoloEarth as an MMO which directly super-charges our Vtubing business
>At no point do they plan on sidelining Vtubing as their growth model, but they want to utilize Vtubing to become entangled in all entertainment forms that Japan specializes in (Anime and Video Games, basically)
>COVER averaged out their revenue from each Vtuber to be about 1.5 million dollars each (by taking every person under contract and dividing the total revenue earned to each of them equally)
>COVER is currently and actively working on North American (or at least overseas for HoloEN) supply chains, so expect better merch prices as shipping costs decrease
>COVER's plan for HoloEarth: They call it "Metaverse," it's actually just an MMO, almost like PSO2?
>Most monetarily sus part: planned market for accessories and costume parts for an avatar. Equivalent to CS:GO skins? Or maybe Grand Exchange?
>they say that they want to sell digital merch on Holoearth on top of real life merch, so you better believe your ass is getting ohsi pins for five bucks a pop on that avatar character and limited time concert merch
>for major risks, COVER lists: Vtuber burnout, Youtube fucking them, and the risk of becoming too horny (literally write "if we become a threat to the public/moral order")
>there's a lot of technical stuff about growth rates and investment stabilization that won't interest most of you
>The big goals with this investment: MAKE PRETTIER VTUBER MODELS FOR 3D CONTENT, BUILD A NEW MOTION CAPTURE STUDIO SO THEIR BACKLOG ISN'T FUCKED, AND BUILD A HOLOLIVE APP
>a lot more investment stuff that people here wouldn't care about, like revenue flows
>interesting statistic: Ever since Myth debuts, COVER's overseas viewship ratio has been about 40% Overseas, 60% Japanese. But before Myth had debuted, the Overseas fan ratio had been growing, since around the start of COVID. So the Hololive overseas market was showing signs of popping off before the big pop-off.
>Cover keeps stats of "# of days until 100k subs, and this stat has sat at "Zero Days" for the last two years
>For their workforce, Management accounts for 17% of all workers, the game devs having 11%, VTuber developers at 35%, Marketing and Event Planners at 22%, and White Collar Office Workers at 14%.
>Mori and Suisei are specifically listed as strong brand drivers via music promotion (So are Chloe and Marine, but specifically via TikTok Zoomers)
>Cover specifiically said that their convention circuit was important to their growth, listing events like AnimeNYC and Crunchyroll Expo as big events (If you were at those cons, your picture is probably in an international investment document!)
There you go. Seems very standard, and mostly serves to show off what was probably obvious to everyone here already: Hololive makes a fuckton of money, the girls are all financially healthy, and so is their company as a whole.

Hey faggots, I went and did some quick digwork
The Producer, Director, Audio Designer and Assistant Director are from IJIGEN TOKYO.
They work on advertisements.
>"Different dimension TOKYO" is centered around otaku culture and subculture
>A creative team that creates advertisements, events, and content.
>Anime, idols, music, illustrations, games, technology, etc.
>Experience the culture of chaos in a cross-cutting and multi-dimensional manner.
As a preview of the kind of stuff they've made in the past:
The Motion Designer, cumuloworks, is a designer who works with 3DCG.
>I'm a freelance motion designer/3DCG generalist based in Tokyo.
>I started video production when I was a high school student, and worked at NANAME Inc. for two and a half years before going freelance.
>With many years of experience in the Japanese video production industry, I am able to create many different types of motion graphics using a variety of techniques including 3DCG, simulation, and scripting.
>In addition to my day-to-day production, I also teach video production at design schools and privately
He mostly seems to do music videos from what I saw.
The only one I'm having trouble with is the designer, PANCHI, because that's a fucking word for an artistic style from Myanmar and would appear to also be a word in Pakistan, with it just meaning "Punch" in Japanese, so I can't fucking find anything without having something to narrow them down with.
But overall, that should narrow down the idea of what this whole thing is.
>Company that specializes in stylish MVs, sometimes for ads and sometimes for OP/EDs
>3DCG artist
I'm expecting an advertisement, maybe for a game of some kind, or a new kind of product, but honestly, the scope of work they do is wide. If I could find PANCHI, maybe I could narrow it down more.

Apologies, but I started this project last thread and wasn't able to finish it before this one.
>>6550923
You know, I actually wanted to check something, so I went ahead and did some (EXTREMELY ROUGH SO DON'T TAKE IT AS GOSPEL) calculations on that subject.
If you look at the data that's being posted, /hlgg/ has a very stable average of about 20,000 posts per day, with /vt/ currently having about 39,000 posts per day, dispersed deep between 149 other threads every day.
I want to calculate a VERY rough estimate of board traffic per the data available on hand, and to do so, let's assume the average traffic of /hlgg/ can be extrapolated across the rest of the board. First, let it be known that all of my calculations are rounded to the nearest whole number. Second, let me define the terms I'll be using in this post:
>PPD: Posts Per Day, the amount of individual posts made each day on average.
>Person: The average poster. One Person = One IP.
>Schizophrenic: Schizophrenic posters, defined here to account for both the truly insane people (see; Orc, Sinfag), as well as aggregating various lesser schizos across various timezones.
>RoI: Return on Investment, the gains that result from an action taken.
We have a rough average of about 300 IPs per thread, which obviously dips in some hours and peaks in other hours. Within that rough average, I applied a ratio of "Schizophrenic to Poster" at a rate of 1/100, and thus assumed we have 3 people who can be classified as "Schizophrenic," that is to say, shitposters who spread drama, false flag and go crazy throughout the day.
Assuming this value of "Schizophrenic" can reliably account for a crazy person posting on cooldown, let's then set that value to run every twelve hours, assuming the other twelve hours of the day have to be taken up by tasks for survival, that is, sleeping, eating, working or otherwise gathering funds, and the time it would take to evade a ban.
That means one post every minute, sixty posts every hour, and 720 posts per day within that twelve hour period. Multiply that by three for my guesstimate rate of "1 Schizophrenic Per 100" and apply it to this thread's 300 average IP, and you get 2,160 posts per day by the collective Schizophrenic population of these threads. Applying that to the 20,000 PPD of these threads, that means despite being 1% of the thread's population, Schizophrenics are the result of 11% of posts within the threads, rounded up.
Now, let's assume another idea: Investment matching return. Ideally, Schizophrenics wouldn't operate without a profitable RoI, and being generous, let's assume that a rate of One-to-One is acceptable. So in order for a Schizophrenic to continue to operate, they need an RoI of one (You) for every post they make. Assuming that, and applying it to the threads, means that the Schizophrenic and their RoI account for 4,320 of the 20,000 PPD, or 22% of the thread.
Now, take that and apply a factor that is less scientific, more gut reaction: Threads outside of this one (or colonies of this one, or other generals) are worse than ours. So assuming the IP to PPD ratio remains the same, apply the Schizophrenic ratio to the rest of the board at a slightly increased rate, from 1/100 to 2/100, under the assumption that the rest of the board is only slightly worse. Since the rest of the board makes up almost a full second half, let's run it as if it was a clean half. So we have 20,000 posts again, and that means we can estimate 300 average IPs throughout the rest of those posts, and from that, assuming a 2/100 ratio of Schizophrenic to Person, we have six Schizophrenics dispersed across the rest of the board. That means that out of the approximately 20,000 posts out there, 4,320 of them are Schizophrenic posts, meaning 22% of all outside traffic posts are Schizophrenic in nature. Assuming the RoI concept holds true outside /hlgg/ as well, that means 43% of all off-/hlgg/ traffic is made up of Schizophrenic posters and their RoI.
If you were to group both entities together, that would give all of /vt/ 40,000 PPD, and about 600 average posters. Out of those 600, an average of 9 are Schizophrenic. Out of the 40,000 PPD, 6,480 of the posts are made by Schizophrenics, meaning a full 16% of all PPD are made by 9 extremely mentally disturbed people. Schizophrenic PPD + RoI account for 12,960 of the 40,000 PPD, or 32% of all board activity.
In total, if you were to find a way to permanently ban all 9 Schizophrenics from the board, the collective board population would drop by just a bit less than 2%, while dropping the total board activity by nearly a full third, and that is assuming the lightest possible RoI on Schizophrenic activities.
I find that utterly FASCINATING.
