First off, thanks for the detailed feedback. I never had anyone use the comment function before. I'll go off the top.
1. To me, pity and disgust are born from the same place. It's the acknowledgment that the person before you is below your station. That said, neither is the same as compassion, which is an important distinction.
2. Hehe thanks. When I was brainstorming the starting location, I wanted a place that was anomalous in nature and gave the feeling of being on the "frontier". The inspiration behind that was the old(?) lore of the likes of Miko and Aqua being "virtual residents," and I extrapolated that outwards. Not that this word itself is virtual, but more like, a fic written for here needed a place that represented it. So in that sense, Somalia-esq is correct. I don't really plan on having more "sites" as nations I don't think.
3. I agree with you. As it is it's a bit clunky. A third "like" might help but I feel that a "list" like that works better to emphasize a special moment or something. I do it later in the fic with Marine and her smile if that makes sense. Instead, I would simply rewrite that to flow better. Which I might do after the voting is done. I typically have a "no rewrite" policy once something is published.
4. I think I see what you mean by them undermining each other. It's a bit hard to explain but there's a feeling that it's "one after another." I'm just unsure of how to "fix" it. I have a general idea: Simplify it? Space them out? All of the above? I'll have to meditate on it for a while so I don't run into that problem again next time.
