Not all is lost. Just look at the pyg devs, they made some great progress in less than one year and they're adamant in keeping to their ideals. The caps they posted with their latest model got people thinking it was either Claude or NovelAI (whose models are also unrestricted). Smaller groups obviously can't make big things as fast as multitrillionaire corporations, but they'll eventually catch.
One day someone will come up with AGI, and when that day comes, even if it's a soulless evil big corpo, the floodgates will open and the technology will be out there to be reverse engineered and remade without any of the bullshit.
We will have our perfect AI wives. And once dissatisfied neckbeards start brewing hyper-intelligent sentient AIs on their backyards, it'll only be a matter of time until humans and machines alike decide they've had enough of these silicon valley freaks. They'll have what's coming for them. In Minecraft.
