I've seen this suggested before. Docking the value of divvies from a coin completely invalidates the purpose of dividends while punishing people for making what should be good long-term decisions. Any coin you're holding basically stops having value on Friday night, meaning you would be encouraged to DUMP coins at their highest point before friday night, and then not rebuy until after dividends. In a way, it's basically moving the problem to a different part of the weekly gameplay loop. In the current metagame, dividends pose two core problems:
>There is zero risk involved in hoarding coins for dividends, even on low performers. This ultimately invalidates the worth of your positions beyond your placement on the leaderboard. After a certain point, you can't possibly have enough time to just throw your divvies into your oshi. See also: Marine's current state. All of the competitors on Marine's oshiboard are not at any risk of running out of money pumping Marine. Time and attention are bigger obstacles than money after a point.
>Because the amount of returns you can get on dividends is so high, minmaxing dividend gains is the central focus of the metagame at higher net worths, a gate that is continually moving farther and farther down the leaderboard.
Dividends are a problem, but the solution isn't as easy as "nerf dividends". An element of risk needs to be involved other than "okay well I guess I just make EIGHT MILLION instead of TEN MILLION. Sorry, Mister Kibblesworthington III, that diamond beans golden bean bag chair will have to wait until next week".

Nerfing divvies is only a stopgap measure at best. The problem will remain that divvies are free money at no risk that you get by existing with coins in your wallet. The only real way to solve this is to introduce unavoidable (but theoretically manageable) risk somewhere in the system.

This proposal in no way punishes oshicoiners that are diversifying their portfolios, keeping apprised of thier oshi's goings-on, and maintaining a constant stream of income via other means. This would ONLY punish players that exclusively or near-exclusively hold shares in a single coin. In theory, the only high-ranking player that would even remotely be at risk is mogu, simply because Okayu holds up almost 50% of Mogu's volume and valuation.

The system already tracks views on a weekly basis for dividends anyway, so I would propose that any week where views are a significant % lower than the rolling average of the last 4 weeks would be marked as a "hiatus" or "low-performing week", and subject to dividends going negative. This would prevent a massive crash the week(s) after a major event, but keep coins that rely more on MV views in the game.
