Every good game for the system got ported to something better, the Virtual Boy was unironically a better, more interesting/influential console.

Nintendo had a lot of goodwill left over from the SNES and despite everyone moving over to disc based games, they decided to stick to carts which were 15-20 dollars more than anything Sega and Sony were putting out. There are good games for it, but, it was hamstrung with the worst controller ever used as a pack-in, the add-ons were all garbage like memory pack which you couldn't use with the rumble at the same time, the ram expansion is pathetic, etc etc.
Basically, it's Nintendo fanboy sunk cost fallacy/Stockholm syndrome.
