Seconding meds, and not in the 4chinz "go take your meds, schizo" way. If the idea of getting hooked on benzos or something scares you, there are other, non-addictive options. I trust myself enough to keep a handful of benzos (no refill, doc trusts me even less kek) on hand for dire occasions.
Granted, some of the other options kind of suck fucks. I wouldn't personally consider taking any of the anti-depressants that are also approved for anxiety/panic disorders (Paxil, Lexapro, Effexor, Cymbalta) because side effects. Not having my dick work at all would be worse than not having anyone to use it with.
Mirtazapine was a fucking wonderdrug until the morning grogginess started getting in the way. Good shit if you have appetite problems too, you'll put 10 pounds on. It's kinda like pot in a weird way...but it isn't pot. No anxiety, none whatsoever; where pot makes you freak out, mirtazapine just makes your anxiety melt away. No high to speak of. No "zombie" feeling whatsoever like SSRIs. Absolutely fascinating fucking drug, and a weird one too. The higher the dose/longer you take it, the less drowsy it makes you in the morning. Unfortunately the increased appetite never went back to normal until I quit it. Oh, that too, nearly no withdrawal. Talk to someone who's quit fucking Lexapro and see how they feel about that.
Gabapentin might be worth looking into as well. neways, if you do change your mind, don't ask your GP unless you just want carte blanche on some Xanax or something. You need an actual shrink to get shit done or try something "less typical" like mirtazapine for anxiety or "off label" like gabapentin.
