Yeah, paying for fan appearances is generally kinda cringe. Only Migo managed to make it work but that's because she REALLY loves GTA (it literally saved her career).
No one paid Hikakin to visit Okayu (twice even, second time being a completely random zatsu stream). Dude was also seen in a random Pekora noodle tasting stream.
No one paid Kinniku TV to give a guest message to Okayu.
No one really paid to get famous VAs to audition for the trailer of Marine's chuuni childhood game.
No one paid Kojima to RT Pekora and Anya streaming his games.
No one paid that JP wrestler dude to be a fan of Subaru.
No one paid Sugita to talk about Pekora to his coworkers and get them addicted to chuubas.
No one paid Mafia Kajita and Yuichi Nakamura to have multiple collab videos with Fubuki.
No one paid Tadokoro Azusa to have a radio show with Suisei for 2 years.
Not to mention all the different celebrity appearance in Holo fanbox streams and main channel programs.
Toby Fox likely did get paid to compose MariBako though.
I don't know whether Taira Isao got paid to appear in Korone's 3D live either.

Point is, whenever the EN girls get one of these "celebrity guest" messages that are obviously paid for by the fans, it highlights the vast difference in mindshare of HoloJP and HoloEN among their respective markets.
Even Anya got a couple of VA messages (which were a total surprise to her) just by being slightly adjacent to JP (I know I know, memes).

HoloEN is a far cry from making any sort of impact in the wider mindshare of western entertainment.
But then again, considering the absolute clusterfuck that Hollywood has turned into, one has to wonder if it's actually a GOOD thing that Hololive isn't mainstream in the US...

I'm gonna wait until debut to make any final judgements...
...but god damn, this is the first """hololive""" debut that I'm watching with so little enthusiasm.
Most debuts we'd be cooming over the designs, claiming wifes, wondering what their voices would be like, hunting rms, theorizing about what type of games they'll play, who would be a fun match with the existing girls, BUYBUYBUYing, SELLSELLSELLing etc. etc. (obviously checking which of them interacts with the homos as well, but that's a moot point now).

This is like... their designs are so "normal", their ages don't have any fun little "guessing games", they're got zero lore to speak of (except for the Live house tidbit at the end).. we know all of their voices.. we've been "told" what people THINK they're like in like 3-4 different streams, one of them being an anniversary stream and one of them being a regularly scheduled talent centric show...
We've seen them on streams so much that "debut" becomes a bit of a pointless ritual.
We've been told they're a "music project" as well so they likely won't stream much, and they'll likely be focussing more on music activities, so no game streams, no holo minecraft, no collab ban etc. etc... the very mood in which we're watching the stream is to wait for the confirmation of these facts from the talents themselves...
More than anything else, there's zero Hololive tier "EXCITEMENT" for this stuff.

You guys remember the Advent pre-debut threads? The "CUTE" spams, the edits, the hopium for the twins, Berylfag overdosing on Hopium, all the speculation about who they'd be, all the anticipation for the voice reveals..
In comparison, Dev_Is has got to be one of the SADDEST pre-debut atmospheres in Hololive history.
I hope the girls themselves are good at least, but it feels like we're just waiting for the final hammer of their "activities" to drop rather than looking forward to something new and exciting to add to Hololive.
