This removal of likes is relatively recent thing.
What they are doing, is removing likes on bullshit reasons, in order to hide their bullshit throttling of live view counts. People always use the disparate like/view ratio when discussing how the chuubas have artificially low view counts. By removing likes they are hiding yet another piece of evidence pointing at the faggotry they're doing in the background.
