Imagine if they get confronted by an actual group of heroes, and that group knows of what they did down in those ruins, so they have to choose whether to confess and face their crimes or fight against those forces and embrace what they've become. Or better yet, they have to choose whether to follow the group in their actions, or betray them and turn over a new leaf.
