What people forget is that overseas viewers just have YouTube but in Japan, Hololive does a bunch of other shit, most of which we don't see cause we don't live there. Your second question kind of rolls into this. Fubuki is pretty well known, as is Aqua and Subaru and then Gen 3. If you see advertising in Japan, it's more likely that it's one of them. Sora is the Dai Senpai and actually did more off YouTube than the others, she's the ambassador so to speak, and one of the safest since she's so seiso and inoffensive.

Gens 3 and 5 are generally agreed to be the closest. Gen 4, Watame, Kanata, and Coco are closer to each other than Luna and Towa generally speaking, although they aren't on bad terms, just not as close. The other Gens are coworker tier, this has a lot to do with how Vtubing used to be different, and 0th, 1st, and 2nd aren't as close. Gamers is close but they were all RL friends even before Hololive.

Aqua was hugely popular with the Chinese. She was going to sing a song and do an event for the Chinese League of Legends. They liked her more than the CN branch, although nobody liked the CN branch. When all that shit went down, they actually tried to raise funds to buy her out from Cover, as if she'd ever want them to do that. They had their own rrats about how she was secretly sad and being held hostage by Cover and Coco and even made their own super cringe comic about it, a page of which I'll post here. It's all in their heads of course, Aqua and Coco are actually pretty close, especially in Aqua terms. Coco helped her out when Aqua was getting raided by Anti's over a stupid Smash Bros thing, she played with a pro player who "cut in line" when she was playing with fans, not out of malice but she was just excited to play him.
