Just good old 3D modeling!
I've cleaned up the polar ice (I'll add it back in later with its own thing) and some extra lines, and used the borderless map. Also, I drew in something for the North Pole. You can inspect it more closely with the maps:

I'm not much of an actual artist, feel free to modify that North Pole so it looks nicer, or to give any feedback. This is a rough shape, I'll refine it to look more in-line with the rest.
Next, I'll get rid of the stepped look.
