It's not the hook, but in any case, I'm going to rewrite everything I did after the MC and his companion found the dungeon. The writing was lacking and as I wrote it out in the spur of the moment, I thought of a lot of better ideas. I may start writing using an outline. It will be less fun during the writing process, but in the end it will be better than having to rewrite.

The companion is mentioned two words after I cut this off as she starts to pester the MC about this being boring. I can see what you mean by show and not tell, you're saying something like the story should start at the "adventurer's guild" where anon finds the contract, hears the rumours, talks to the old man, then enters the castle. But here's my rebuttal, since neither the castle nor the rumours are actually important, hyping them up with 2k words of set up might be detrimental to both the reader and the writer. An element of the intro is important to the story, just not the whole thing. And it will have its due focus as the chapter goes along.
