Nice work so far OG. Make sure to continue letting the reader know what's going through Sherah's mind, this is nicely done. You can also try getting across her emotional state through body language. For example, instead of saying Sherah is increasingly nervous, you could say she was fidgeting nervously, I think that tends to be more immersive for the reader. Your writing has gotten noticeably better since you started. I guess Sycamore is about to explain the Risuners need to look within for answers, or something like that?

I had an interesting chat on the topic with hospital Comfy who had views on the benefits of the essentialist perspective.
To clarify, yes, I posit that I had a more constructivist view. I'm not convinced by your argument, I feel like it still folds changing factors into a supposedly static core concept.
But Comfy brought up the practical concern that in a fictional setting, you would always expect a character to keep "something" of themselves, no matter what transformations they might go through. This "something" is undefined and varying per-character, but it's always there, and effectively, I can observe this to be true in all fiction I can think of. While this is a bit intellectually unsatisfying, I can accept this as precedent for defining an unchanging core concept.
