Oh and I should clarify that we operate on a speed-of-plot timeframe. If you need your nation to be frozen in let's say year 1130 to set it up, you can very well do that! You can also make diplomatic talks take place in the distant past, so they are well established by today. And when it comes to diplomacy talks and trade deals, those are usually done on the meta layer between writers anyway and not usually represented much with in world stories or anything of the sort.

The thing with yurts is that they are actual mobile homes, even if they might be harder to transport and set up than other tents and stuff. They provide great isolation, are sturdy and usually house entire families. So while they might not be ideal for lonely travellers, communities would definitely make great use of them.

We don't want us to be the potential answer for any problem clocks might have. Also remember that at most, there will be like 20ish adults, with the rest being kids or teenagers.
