I can't get into SMT because I just find grinding back to back to back combat encounters really boring.

Persona keeps things fresh by rotating in the S Links and social sim stuff on top of the dungeons, which keeps things fresh throughout. And the way Persona has the two gameplay types interact (getting perks for S-Links that improve your performance during the turn based battles) makes the combat feel a lot more rewarding to me.

The overhead time limit also adds difficulty to the dungeons, because your goal isn't just to complete the fights (relatively easy) but to do so in the fewest number of days possible, requiring you to be smarter with SP and recovery items.

On top of the more anime-influenced aesthetic, more cute girls and more interesting soundtracks (personal opinion) I just don't find SMT as fun to play as Persona.

Joker - Kronii (Socially isolated loner type who gives off the impression of being super hostile and intimidating, is actually a dork)
Ryuji - Mori (a dumbass who causes most of their own problems, but wants the best for others)
Ann - Kiara ( Idol/model with a sunny disposition despite struggling with serious issues in the past)
Morgana - Gura (profitable mascot character, bad habit of just leaving for several weeks without telling anyone and never apologizing for it)
Makoto - Amelia (fiercely independent, the first person to offer help to someone else, but has to be basically forced to accept help herself)
Yusuke - Sana (eccentric artist who speaks passionate nonsense nobody else understands)
Futaba - Ina (hikki dedicated to her craft, can go weeks without sleep and then pass out for like, a solid month and people kind of just have to accept it)
Haru - Fauna (soft and fluffy sweetheart who may have a repressed desire to go on a rampage with an axe)
Akechi - Mumei (charming and sweet on the surface, but the longer you listen the more obvious it is that they're bottling up an entire wine cellar worth of emotions)
Kasumi - IRyS (Hated her old face so much she got herself a new one)

I've been around since debut but I never understood the hate, or even the context of mumeism.
Anyone willing to tell me the context? I'd probably hate it too if I knew.
