Japanese people experience Paris syndrome almost everywhere they go. They really do not at all understand that Japan is more or less the cleanest, safest, and most racially homogenous country in the world. They've lived it their entire lives so they're completely unaware of how garbage the rest of the supposed "civilized world is". I'm from Toronto and I'm fucking embarrassed to admit it despite the fact my city is constantly rated one of the best places to live in North America.

I lived in downtown Toronto for a few years and I think it’s actually pretty nice, certainly better than any major city here in the states. You can live outside of the city and commute for work, and downtown around the financial district is nice. At least it was when I left in like 2015. Of course you get your usual urban crazies (crack-smoking push-up guy, catpiss lady on the Queen St streetcar, assorted hobos) and your Cultural Diversity(tm) but it’s nice for a city. I never felt unsafe even when I did stupid shit late at night. Any problem Toronto has is at least as true for any other city in North America.

You’re right though, nothing in NA can compare with Japan in terms of cleanliness, convenience, safety, and all the rest.
