Happens with far too many creative companies, sadly. It's why past a certain point they go from making, and I hate that word, IPs to buying them. Because management kills everything through a slow process of micro-management and subsequent calcification.

Nintendo are not the saints their rabid fans make them out to be, but they understand that you cannot have too harsh a dissociation between management and creators.
Their last CEO for example started out as the guy that wizzed the file sizes of the original Pokemon games to the point they could fit entire new regions onto the cartridges.

I wouldn't be too massively surprised if you could find examples of it happening rarely from time to time before NijiEN but with as much frequency as now? 2 girls were In Japan (now one is in Europe), 1 in Canada, 2 in the U.S but one in the west coast and the other in the east coast. The EN girls were spread across different timezones and in order to serve as many people as they could they avoided overlap and stuck to their respective timezones. This doesn’t include Ina’s other job and Mori’s other jobs (which she quickly replaced with making music once she quit). The most important factor is HoloMyth’s autism where they didn’t want to be a bother to one another especially towards Ina and Mori. So timezones + busy schedules + autism meant that guerilla collabs were rare and far between but now that there are 6 more members and they’re less autistic means that these sort of collabs can happen much more often. Also Ina has more free time now that her other job is pretty much done (she was the one that always joined in on the guerilla collabs).
