So,

Yuul Looks like the Joker now

The Party joined the dance instead of wondering what was up and trying to stop it (being more white could have solved a shit-ton of problems, eh?)

ICP dragged the carnival into the void river of the underworld.

They fell out of a 3-5 story window and took only 3 bashing.

Gura was gonna light kids on fire, for some reason, when the plan was to light up the other booth.

Ina's just quiet and observant. Gura and Kiara take up a lot of e-space when it comes to collabs, so it can be hard for her to hop in and assert herself in the ways they do. >> No.11383999

I followed along and summarized the last session, let me know if I missed anything important.

Session 4
>The team is awarded with $500 each for their mission, plus $100 for a few odd jobs
>Lady M informs them that they seem to have doppelgängers at the popup beach carnival in town
>Tiara buys some cyanide from the kid at the hideout, but swindles him out of a kiss for a $50 discount
>Scout buys a motion sensor from him, convincing him that a kiss would make three of his legs fall off, then beating him in an arm wrestle for a better discount
>Yuul gets a kitchen knife and tear gas after persuading him to slash the price in half
>Watoto buys a bamboo blow gun and 5 darts for cheap after intimidating him with kisses
>Scout gets a Brash Candicoot mascot costume
>The kid tries to sell Tiara a high quality lockpick, but Scout points out she has a lot of hairpins, so he closes up shop in anger
>Vic drops them off at the carnival with Bertha, and Tiara proposes a safe word to her (lignonberry jam) to know it's really them
>Tiara is very curious about a new soda brand called Straygo that everyone seems to be drinking, so she takes a sip from a stranger's soda, who tells them that the Mad Jester Clan is performing tonight
>Chad is working the carnival and notices Yuul, he lets them know that his brotherhood checked the place out and didn't find anything suspicious
>Noticing that there's a lot of fans of MJC in attendance, they find a face painting booth to blend in better
>Tiara gets Uhu facepaint, Yuul gets the Joker, Watoto gets a mushroom on his forehead, and Scout gets Brash Candicoot (underneath her mascot costume)
>Wearing a clown mask, Vic appears on stage to introduce MJC, while the audience goes wild and sprays their soda all over
>Yuul notices that there's something odd about the duo on stage, how they got into a rhythm and the audience immediately followed along
>The pair on stage start doing a chant to praise a deity and perform a dance, which Tiara and the rest of the audience follows along with perfectly
>Yuul attempts to participate in the dance but fails and draws attention to herself, when suddenly a bolt of lightning strikes the ground in front of her and the sky turns a dark blue
>The ground shakes and the surrounding rides begin to change in appearance, now flickering in a strange neon light, some in the shape of large eyes
>The group heads backstage, and instead of the ocean they see, it's an impossible sight of hundreds of rivers with murky water
>The carnival grounds appears to be floating down one of these rivers, with people trying to swim out but getting swept away
>In the chaos, Tiara shoots her revolver at the sky which causes people to panic and fall into the river
>Watoto takes the initiative to begin getting children to safety, enlisting Scout in the costume to lead kids to a chicken coop
>Bertha returns and tells them about seeing the doppelgängers enter the hall of mirrors
>She also details how she's certain they've entered another world, as she was enjoying a stroll with her deceased husband earlier
>Bertha is familiar with this situation, explaining that the rivers lead to the ocean of fragments, which means everything inside the carnival will fade into nothingness as if it had never existed
>Unfortunately she doesn't know how to return to the real world, but tells them to keep an eye out for any clues
>On the merry-go-round, Tiara notices it operating on its own, with people on the ride chanting in a trance, so she takes a shot at one of the neon eyes
>The eye looks around and starts spinning around fast, then spins in reverse, knocking everyone off and falling unconscious, the ride appearing to return to normal afterwards
>The team makes a plan to visit the other attractions and set things straight
>At the shooting gallery there's four plush dolls that look exactly the same as them, where a hooded ghostly attendant motions for them to take a shot with the nerf gun provided
>Yuul takes the first shot, hitting the doll right in the forehead, but Yuul feels an intense pain in her forehead as well, taking two lethal damage
>To avoid further harm, a plan is hatched for Watoto to steal the dolls while the tent is lit on fire from a hay bale outside
>Watoto swipes them, but Scout falls on her face outside when the attendant investigates the fire
>The hooded figure touches her and Scout begins to have her soul taken away, so she runs off
>With the attendant gone, they clean out the stall and find a doll that looks like Bertha as well
>Heading towards the castle, they notice balls of blue energy floating around
>Inside, the blue energy balls swirl around and lead down into a black void
>Scout gets the idea to tie a rope to Watoto and lower him down together
>He safely appears in a room upstairs near an open window, the void appearing to be a portal between these two sections
>The rest of the group jump in, but everyone ends up falling out of the window due to their speed

Her being a Sin-Eater would indeed be the most logical answer.

In case you're wondering what a Sin-Eater is, they're basically people who were brought back from the dead by making a deal with a Geist, ghosts so unspeakably old that they forgot what it means to be human and hitchhike inside their Sin-Eater's head to relive and remember the human condition. Sin-Eaters usually use their second chance at life to help ghosts let go of their past regrets and move on from the world of the living. There's a lot more to it than what the character limit would allow me to explain but that's the gist of it.

Another possibility would be that she's her husband's Anchor (someone/something that prevents ghosts from moving on to the afterlife) or a Mage with the Death Arcanum (as the latter can see and interact with ghosts as well). So to sum it up, we don't know for sure yet, but we do have hints of an answer.

>Hachama would only make sense running a nuts-ass one-shot, and those girls in particular would bounce off her well without hachama falling back to japanese every 2 seconds (but add a possible sub-translator)
>Kronni'd be taking one for the team here; she'd be tard-wrangling so all those spacey girls could go galavanting in the longest running nerd fandom of all time. also, only place Sana fits. let her shine. Add Kiara because she can handle herself. Add Ina because she needs to stretch her legs and ST is relatively cerebral.
>You figured DSA. Include the other fantasy RPG nerd, her bess fwend, and a cunt she can thrash.
>Ina runs a game for her girls. also, she has the IQ and pacing to pull off CoC. It's also less rude if Ina killed anyone, i can see her apologizing the moment it happens.
>Mouse Guard: How adorable can you make an RPG? that is how you do it, in a game where it's a fuzzy critter co-op. also, game is so fucking simple you might as well pack in bodes.

It would happen more often than you'd think. Sin-Eaters usually make the deal because they had their life cut short, whether by an accident, disease, etc.

Given that hunter work is a pretty dangerous job, it wouldn't be that unusual to see a Geist take an interest in one and offer them the deal, with them accepting out of desperation.

It's also worth noting that Sin-Eaters are among the more benign of all the playable monsters in CofD and tend to have peaceful interactions with hunters (Mortal Remains even describes one time where Sin-Eaters and hunters work together to kill a witch who enslaved ghosts, and both groups leaving on peaceful terms afterwards).

As for M, I can't say for sure. My bets would be on her being a mage, personally. Not a lot of signs pointing to her being a werewolf or a changeling, but a demon might not be out of the question for her as well.

Sin-Eaters can see ghosts in Twilight, if she were a Sin-Eater she'd ALWAYS be able to see him. honestly dunno why the mindset she applies to games/art doesn't translate at all into this, it's almost like she's afraid to be a nuisance
comparatively, Gura and Kiara will both negotiate for their advantages/Merit utility and Ame can at least make her laugh enough to approve her stupider interpretations

Ina's the only one not to play into it at all, when she should be doing a shitload of researching and crafting

I was genuinely shocked when they left the bar immediately upon making a few purchases from Kid. There's a metal crafter, chemical crafter, traps crafter, and ??? crafter, yet none of them took advantage of the free time they had with special access to a forge, chemicals, and other materials. I thought for sure that Yuul would have let Tiara know that she could try making a poison or strong acid like she was originally intending to buy.

Has Tiara even crafted anything in the campaign yet? I feel like she completely forgot that her character was very familiar with making traps used for hunting. The same goes for most of them, they really need to take another long look at their character sheets and think of some situations where their character could use the skills that they've invested in.
It seems like after the second session and the massive break they've lost some of their creativity.

Her reserved nature + 5 man collab really puts her in a tight spot to shine. She could be an invaluable support member if she spent a few hours with Calli going over the intricacies of her academic and mental specialties. She strikes me as being uncertain of what she's capable of, and being afraid of her attempts being sandbagged by Calli in front of 12k viewers.

I don't want to say she's been discouraged, but I can name off the top of my head three instances where Yuul / Ina came up with a pretty good idea, but it got lost or buried. Hell, she didn't even bring up her stat changes for Session Three because it would have required her to interrupt and make herself the center of attention (if only briefly). When you understand Ina's IRL background and personality, it makes sense.

>sessions are biweekly, sometimes put off for longer if people are on vacation or something

This is most likely the big issue, I feel most of them have forgotten the small details of the game; Scout is a character pretty much build around crafting and she has barely crafted anything outside of her tutorial session. A pretty good example was from their very first session into the second session when they were in the hedge. It went from super tense and suspenseful at the end of session one, and them happy and high energy in the second session which had them all turn into retarded murderhobos. I floated the idea of them watching 30 min to an hour of the previous session just to try an match the tone, but I highly doubt that is gonna happen.

>> No.11419591

>>11418342
Scout utilized the guild forge during the first session. Let's be real about the setting, sometimes players will pick skills that simply get no use, especially a group that is tailoring a character to the personality, not the game itself. But I do agree with you, they should rewatch the ENTIRE previous session before diving into the next one. Maybe not between sessions 3 & 4 since those are separate, but where they're at now, a refresher is critical. That or Calli needs to give them a very detailed recap before the stream starts.

One thing I want to remind all anons about, these are a bunch of newbs. They're grabbing onto things gradually, too gradually for some I know, but they're not Critical Role, running this campaign isn't their sole job. I try to keep my criticisms (if you can call them that) within a reasonable realm. I always, ALWAYS call them out on flubbed rolls (example: Scout's attempts to run from the ghostly carnie-folk). Not being "totally in the setting" comes with time, but fucked up rolls need to be admonished right away, because it's fundamental that rolls be correct.

This is very important to keep in mind considering how many people only watch TTRPGs from more-or-less professional players nowadays and don't actually play, or are only used to videogame RPGs.
I used to play a lot of TTRPGs and, when watching the tutorials and first session, often found myself annoyed with what one of the players did; but in the end, they are new and "double-roleplaying" in front of a big audience that wants to be entertained and doesn't have the patience for extended rules talk, tactics discussion, group prep etc. I was still entertained, and now that I'm more willing to overlook minor problems I'm even more so.

I would love a "shootin the shit" stream where everyone is talking about the setting and learning together, asking Calli questions about her previous TTRPG experiences and just becoming more familiar with WoD in general. Hell it could go on for 8 hours and I'd still watch it. I rewatch the CC stream from time to time simply because it carries that atmosphere.

the crafting problem comes from the character creation stream, the first skill Calli highlighter was crafting, that drove the noobs to use points on crafting. So the girls aren't registering that skill now because they got cemented, like Tiara is a gunner and a bird lady so crafting doesn't pop up, also that is a prep skill and they forgot probably.

It's unusual for anyone to become one of the Bound. Sin-Eaters are just a type of the Bound, those that protect the dead and help them pass on. It's not just a matter of unfinished business and an unwillingness to accept death, that's certainly part of it but most people have that stuff. For most of the deaths like that they just become ghosts. Hell, with the way Hunters live you'd expect most of them to end up as at least one ghost, plenty of them would probably make 2 or 3. That's neither here nor there though, because to become one of the Bound you need to bind yourself with a Geist and they're not common. Geists have all but forgotten what it was like to be human, what they were in "life" (no ghost was every actually alive) is juuust perceivable under layers myth and archetype. They're the stuff of urban legends, shaped into monstrous and oft barely human forms, and possessed with desires to match your own. They don't just offer the Bargain to any poor sap who'd like a second chance, they need someone who resonates with their cause. And it is a bargain, your second shot at things isn't just out of the goodness of their heart but because they're after something as well. It might be as simple as helping you fulfil a dream of yours so you can become its own legacy and validate it, or it might demand you settle its mortal affairs whether that's seeing their loved ones taken care of or exacting bloody vengeance on those who wronged it. Responsibility, greed, loss, regret, and rage are all things that might call a Geist but you're far more likely to just die and stay dead, leaving a ghost in your wake, than you are to join the ranks of the Bound.

8 Defence is a solid amount, 6 is about average for most enemies though. The girls aren't really built for combat especially well but that's not really much of an issue.

>>11457153
Like other Anon said, that's not the case. 10 would peak, Athletics increase your Defence in CofD. It's not too hard to circumvent though. Pretty, Pretty Princess doesn't apply Defence vs Firearms so using any gun makes them pretty easy to hit. They're also not particularly impressive outside of their 13 dice attack, so ganging up on them is a good way to get through it but just shooting the shit out of them is hard for it to deal with.

>>11474373
In CofD Defence is equal to the lowest of your Dexterity or Wits + Athletics. Which makes 10 the natural cap without Merits or anything. Doing that does require the equivalent of 42 experience, so it's not nothing. Most Armours do reduce your Defence though, so staying that high isn't actually super likely. You can get up to -6 Defence is you're wearing a bomb suit with a helmet.

Starting with 8 requires basically dumping everything into Defence. You need 5 Athletics, and then 3 Dex 3 Wits, or 4/4/4, or 3/5/5. It's pretty much just min maxing assuming you're playing a mortal or template without easy access to a Defence boost.

The idea that they were never alive is just one of many interpretations (more specifically, it's a belief that's common among mages, which may or may not be a way to justify using them to their own ends as familiars).

As far as everyone else is concerned though, ghosts are the soul of a deceased who can't move on to the afterlife (the ultimate truth about this is ultimately up to the GM, anyway).

As for Geists, they have abandoned all of their anchors and memories of their human lives and wandered the Underworld for so long that they have changed, becoming something more like a hybrid between a ghost and a spirit (which causes tension when werewolves get involved, as the latter tend to hunt unruly spirits who cause havoc in the human world).

>> No.11497678

>>11495155
No, it's literally true. There is no other interpretation for it as even in the Geist core book it's made explicitly clear that a ghost isn't actually the same as the thing it is a ghost of. It's merely a copy, and not always a good one at that. Ghosts also aren't souls, and there are people aware of that fact.
