i mean, she changed it, but i'm not really sure it's an improvement. her talking doesn't sound noticeably better or worse to me. the global EQ affects game sound too, which i guess makes explosions boomier because of the bass boost. the cracking compressor attack spikes happen plenty often during talking too. i measured a couple of the really bad ones just now, and i needed 24 dB of limiter to really smooth them out. 24 dB of limiter is INSANE. the spikes are literally four times as loud as the rest of her talking, and this is the outcome of a recent attempt to improve the compressor setup.

fundamentally, the problem of "you put an EQ on your mic and instead it affected the entire mix" is just another manifestation of "you seem to have some really nightmarish audio routing problems", the same thing that blocks her from having BGM in the intro of collabs. the solution to that is "you need to completely redesign your audio routing from scratch", which is just not going to fly. everything is just going to be stuck sounding worse unless and until she randomly decides to rearrange things in some other way that randomly happens to be better.

Just name them something similar, for instance the 3 you responded to I would name them "Lurk" or something and they would just auto name to Lurk (1) Lurk (2) etc. and you just type lurk in the search thing and they'll show up in smaller batches to look through.

the most devious reason i can think of to do what she's done would be to introduce group delay *intentionally* to block people from isolating her vocals and remix her karaoke singing. however, it doesn't take a loud, muddy midbass boost to do that. a few ±2 dB tweaks scattered here and here would be plenty to make the backing track stay loud enough after subtraction but without making everything sound so ugly. and besides, when asked what her favorite fan content was she said it was remixes! i am sure this is an unintended side effect of just trying to make her voice sound smoother and less annoying to her, but accidentally applying that EQ to the entire mix.

BtW, I've been meaning to ask, Farhan's Reflect instrumental on piapro does that decibel trick doesn't it? I tried wave-cancelling the music from an mp3 of her Reflect 'video' but there's always parts where some instruments "leaks through". Such as the strings and bouzuki during the prechorus. But then again Farhan was surprised about the instrumental already being uploaded.
So, why are only some instruments loud and others stayed the same? Unless Farhan himself tinkered further with the mixing on the instrumental that can't happen right?

i think what's going on with the reflect instrumental is just that it was mastered separately. with the vocals out of the way, the peak limiter during mastering goes off in different ways at different times. or it might be based on a slightly different mix. i don't think he used filter artifacts to achive that. it also doesn't make much sense not to upload a voice-only version because it barely sounds like her anyway after he got done with it.

I'm not an audio pro but here is what my IT brain thinks:
She used to have a fairly simple setup that was intended for basic VAing. This is probably a somewhat static setup and didn't need too much tweaking once it was dialed in the first time. However, her needs as a vtuber are much more dynamic and her configuration has been drifting for a year, suffering off the cuff tweaks and major equipment changes until the setup has been almost completely ship of theseus'd.
She needs to get a pro to dial her in again, and I don't mean she needs to import watchama's settings. Then she needs to take a production training course of some kind because on the job learning only goes so far and apparently production is not a service that Cover offers.

wave cancellation is pretty much the best thing going. you'll end up with encoding artifacts left over, but a lot of those are on the sides and you can use a center isolation plugin to quiet them down. assuming you're going to mix it with something else, there's not much reason to worry about . but you are just not going to get a good isolation out of "reflect".

honestly, i pretty much hate the vocal mix on "reflect" and i think the vocal mix specifically and the vocal mix alone basically ruins what otherwise would have been a very good song. if i feel like listening to it, i listen to the second live version from the "gawr" karaoke. if he claimed not to "mix her voice too much" he is just straight up lying. she's been obliterated with dynamic compression and she's covered in pitch shifting artifacts.
