Very similar thing happened to me. I think the DLC gets harder than it should be and for the wrong reasons. Some of the slides could be more clear (e.g. I thought VR killed old people), and I never put two and two together that walking into the fire kills you as a way to get into VR because I never killed myself in fire once over the course of the original + DLC.
