She was probably the biggest no brainer in an audition period in the history of HoloEN, probably will remain so for a while. I doubt anyone came close to her in the auditions. She's a completely bilingual, bicultural hafu with more than ten years of experience making videos with hundreds of millions of views, including the most views on covers of two of the most recognizable anime songs of all time. Her voice isn't the most powerful or special sounding, but very controlled and very much an anime/jpop sounding voice, which is still Cover's main niche. She belongs in the list among the other very successful hafus like Kaichou and Pikamee.

Gura was probably the easiest hire but even she had a lot of red flags that made her a high risk/reward. No guarantee she wouldn't flake out after a few months. IRyS really had no downside and fit perfectly into the spot she was interviewing for. She was a very safe hire but with limited potential.

I've learned never to doubt Covers scouting team. The only dud that they've had recently is Anya and that's more because ID management feels like a completely seperate entity from the main and EN branch. At this point, if there's anyone who can find actually entertaining and not completely whorish Latina, Euro or SEA chuubas then it's probably Yagoo.

Before Gura joined Hololive she fit more the profile of Vshojo. Streaming drunk, collabbing with Belle Delphine, an actual pornstar. It's only after she joined that she cleaned up real hard.

I don't actively watch her but when I do catch her it's obvious why she's successful. IRyS has a genuinely great personality and that shows in everything else she does and in her interactions with her fans. If anything, she deserves even more respect because she rose the fuck above her immense design debuff that borders on a miracle. She's a great streamer and just about everything about her is enjoyable to watch, listen and experience.

Vtubing has the advantage of anonymity, and these girls, and I hope Gura personally, will know to save their money, invest it into shit and in themselves and use it as a massive boost for RL stuff.
