The corporations are definitely pocketing on this and yes, it is in a way exploitative of them but the streamers themselves are not always to blame. If the streamer is an indie? Probably even less so.
Some good exemples of this are Polka from holoJP, Nina from NijiEN and possibly many, many indies 2views that I cannot name who are completely dependent on their viewers opinion of them to stay sane.

What I mean by this is that this is a symbiotic relationship that is took adventage from by the business man from Cover, Anycolors, Sony, ETC. The men need love the same way the woman do and being a Vtuber in a world where you might not be able to put yourself out there due to being a non appealing person IRL is very appealing.
