The best moments unironically were watching them grow. But they have grown way too much that intern it feels way too empty and soulless. What went wrong?

Garage band syndrome. You don't want them to succeed so that you can enjoy them for yourselves like they personally belong to you, while ignoring what they want for themselves. If they don't succeed or show visible improvement, they don't have much reason to stick around because you want to contain them in a box of restrictions called SOUL. You are under a severe delusion that they want to be in the same place for years and years for just you and your ilk. The irony of this mindset is that they leave the scene sooner, instead of staying for you because they can find another hobby that pays more.

For anyone disagreeing with OP this is absolutely key, most people here weren't watching when it was actually possible for the holos to interact with chat and that's a huge loss, while I still mostly watch Hololive because that's where most of my favourite streamers are, going between them and an indie that can actually read their chat is like night and day

They have also all become way more busy with off-stream work. To the point of canceling streams over it and not being able to collab due to the schedule conflicts.
I think this is a major one honestly. They each used to collab like twice a week in ADDITION to random minecraft meets. It seems like most of them collab once a month now.

What exactly changed for bad in 2 years? Give at least one example how something is worse?

I'm 2 years in this shit and I do not see any real difference. The only thing that really changed is me. I'm not excited about Hololive at all and I'm not watching them 5 hours a day like back in the days, I don't give a shit about collabs anymore. But it has absolutely nothing to do with their popularity and numbers. Looks like you just experience a nostalgia for the first time in your life, well congratulations, this will happen with many other things that you love and there are nothing wrong with it.

I can sometimes get someone to laugh at a stupid comment. Now Kiara's chat moves so fast I can't even get an eye roll. Even Coco used to give a chuckle, or with Gura I would make some silly comment.

The worst part about chat is that there are like 50 people all repeating the same fucking shit like drones. Like 50 people in Kiara's stream this morning and they would parrot the same information.
>>12901815
This too. Some of these girls are working constantly and I have to agree with Coco, there is a lack of originality now. They can't really be all that spontaneous. The other issue is now there are so many girls I can't watch their clips anymore. I used to keep up with all of them. Now to even get a fraction of that I need a solid 3 hours. Its just not the same.

lol EN doesn't, they literally have nothing to do BUT stream. that's my fault for not specifying, but JP branch constantly talks about having to go for lessons, or record at the studio, or meet with managers in the office. if you follow any of them closely you'd see they pretty much work a full time job on top of streaming. lots of event planning, marketing meetings, merchandising meetings, singing and dance lessons, recording songs, and working with the tech team to get their 2D and 3D assets fixed.

That said, their management can be far too strict sometimes, but I guess that’s a consequence of the Holocaust, getting too big, or not knowing how to treat their now golden goose.

Admittedly, it's possible my memory has become selective (kind of like how people only remember the 'good' 80's music and forget all of the shit that decade churned out), but Hololive before they became shackled by numbers were all kind of doing their own thing to varying degrees of success but an overall much more interesting product.

The Coco/Watame Marie Antoinette moment just wouldn't happen anymore. Off-collabs are at an all-time low despite Japan having been out of a SoE for a while, as are things like group karaoke. Everyone plays the same games at the same time (atm everyone is taking turns reacting to the Korone cameo in Tsugunohi, but before that was the HoloEN MC Server Tour, and before that it was one of those shitty forever-alpha horror games). Collabs in general feel like they've been exhausted, and this is especially true for Myth/Council, who are basically forced to hang out amongst each other whilst other branches and companies freely interact. Team competitions have been rigged to end in a draw three times in the last year or so, which makes even their events boring.

Everything generally just feels so much more sterilised and 'synthetic fun' that it's difficult to watch. Their insular nature has caused me to get bored and burned out, which isn't something they did until they got very popular. None of their members are bad at all, but the general vibe of the company is just not the same.

I have been watching the Holos for like 16 months already and I think it's objective to say that now they seem way way busier with things outside streaming and promotions.
I'm seeing less streams, shorter streams and more shilling streams than before. In terms of content it wasn't really good at first but now, specially with the permissions apocalypse, it's kinda lacking.
I check out holodex for the JP prime time every day and there are some of them that I end up thinking "meh, nothing interesting today" or "oh for fuck sake, they're all playing kusoge FOTM again"
They have burnt out of different streaming content too. I don't mean they're not entertaining anymore or that they don't play/do interesting things sometimes but have to recognize that for 32 members in JP there's not a lot to look forward to if you aren't an idolfag, since some Holos think of streaming as a temporary step toward their actual career.
The EN side is a bit better with more range of games and fresher soulful ideas to do but not a lot of more.
