For new players, good starting jobs are Gladiator, Marauder, Lancer, Archer, Conjurer, Thaumaturge.
Arcanist is not bad, but SMN is a convoluted mess and not new player friendly.

Every other job loses maybe 10% DPS if it doesn't land every single positional.
Monk loses 40%. You lose almost half your damage.
Add on to that a mediocre, boring rotation that's like half what SAM has, a tiny handful of unsatisfying OGCDs to fill in downtime and you have a class that's just SAM but worse and you HAVE to land your positionals (which is every attack, unlike DRG where it's not nearly as obnoxious) to do any damage at all.

Of the mDPS' I'd say NIN and SAM are the most forgiving in terms of positionals. NIN has 3 positionals and 2 of them are rear and SAMs positionals aren't that mandatory nor a DPS loss
DRG is the middle where it's pretty important to hit those positionals and MNK will straight up crusify you if you miss any of those positionals
