I can actually make an argument for popularity in this specific industry for a specific type of viewer. The more popular you are the more eyes you have on you, and looking for stuff about you, which often means that if there is information to be found it gets found faster and spread farther.

The whole point of brands in this case is literally quality assurance. You give a company your business(effectively), and if you do that a few times, the (mostly) consistent standards make an impression and you feel better using and supporting their products in the future without having to worry about investing in a "product"(a little fucked to use this word but w/e) and it backfiring on you later.
Ironically, the consumerbase and it's tertiary elements (so fanbase, antis, unaligned shitposters, unaligned ideological actors) build both a rumor mill and an opposing rumor-busting mill which functions as a way of gathering information about products in a way that the company doesn't provide despite those qualities being important to you.

People need to understand that "2view" does not refer to an indie vtuber's actual viewcount. It's entirely about the mindset they have while streaming, and is used as a pejorative against vtubers with a crab bucket mentality.

I watch Hololive because, like it or not, almost all other vtubers watch them. Same goes for Vshojo, to be quite honest with you. This is what normal people call a "community" and it's far more preferable to endless tidal waves of drama on Twitter.

Pink coyote grinded for 2+ years and has made good on her goals. Are there other vtubers who grinded for as long as her? Sure, and plenty of them deserve to be below her because they didn't put in as much work. You can still watch them, I certainly do alongside pink coyote, but don't act like in some alternate reality the specific indie you watch would be in her position.
