It's been happening since they announced the change. It just so happen to be for those who registered their account during the period they were "testing" removing dislikes. You could see the dislikes if you had an account before that period but I guess they've finally removed dislikes for all accounts since even my oldest one can't see the dislike number anymore. They will likely not reverse this dislike, even though the video talking about removing dislikes was massively disliked. My big complaint, since they won't change it back is, why not show the full number of likes instead of them being in increments of 1k once it gets past that point? My guess is that they didn't plan for it in advance, even though we could see the number with the old like vs dislike bar at the bottom but now that dislikes are gone, that is also gone as well. Youtube: always leaping before they look.

That depends on the language you're using on YT for some reason.
In English you can only see the full number up to 1k, in Japanese it goes to 10k and in German it goes up to 1 million.

Nope, dislike counts from before Dec 13 will be archived, and future counts will be added in from users who use the extension; basically crowdsourcing data like how SponsorBlock currently works. There are also suggestions in their GitHub to extract actual counts from extension users' YT Studio page, where it still exists.

Less people will bother clicking the dislike bar if there's no visual reasons to. It has to be something that everyone will hate (no coincidence that immediately after the dislike bar was removed, Disney put up a video advertising a Wall-E NFT) for people to still hit it.
