It's visceral but emotionless, detailed but unfeeling and not even in the intentionally psychopathic way but in the it the it's there and there's no feeling put towards it. If you were 'into stuff' like this it would be interesting in the mildy interesting way but the absolute meat of the story in regards to the murder just felt 'unnecessary' in that it doesn't really add to the events past the 'it happened' since it doesn't even feel that fetishized.

I spend a lot of time trying to word my story so they don't sound very basic, using synonyms and stuff like that. I'll let you know one of the ways I use to improve. I read the works of others, be it writeanons' fanfics, fiction novels or even just plain excerpts of dialogue. I try to understand what is that makes these things so interesting to read, and the emotions they are trying to convey. And then I copy them. Not as in I copypaste the exact excerpt, rather I try to imitate the things they say, how long or short a sentence goes, the level of detail that goes in the descriptions. Then with the amalgamation of all these things I've imitated and adapted for myself, I feel like I have improved over the course of time.

And just like the other anon said, have confidence and let your writing flow naturally.

I don't think it has to do with story length necessarily, more that writing a nuanced story requires a lot more thought and care into the actions. Abuser and Abused are two simple roles to write, relatively speaking, and to try and make something more out of that is basically asking the writer and reader to have more confidence in the author's writing ability. Now those stories do tend to be longer as a result, but they definitely don't need to.
