I've already made it. I made it into international exchange to japan while I was in highschool and got to live the Persona life for a year. Personally I'm not too invested into vtubers but I watch them to remember the language, it's a great resource. I got into chubes around the time kizuna ai was exploding in popularity in 2018. stopped learning it a while ago. once I reached that level where you know most of the basic grammar and improvement only really happens by learning more kanji / vocabulary the process of learning itself became less fun and rewarding. Also started to care less about Japanese entertainment over the years (mostly because really great animes don't happen often enough, imo) so I am not really motivated anymore in that regard either (might change once I get around to rewatch my favs). Though I feel just learning it to consume an entertainment product without subtitles is bound to ultimately fail anyway

If it's something like a horror game, Apex, Fall Guys I probably can understand 95% or more Other kind of streams like zatsudan can be kind of hard since even if you know most of the words in a sentence it only takes not knowing a single noun or verb to not understand it. I usually always keep jisho and deepl open to look up words if I'm curious on what they are saying. For small streams I also use yomichan on the chat to help keep up with what's being discussed.
