I'll elaborate on this.
Networking can be as simple as getting your name seen by other chuubas on twitter. Simply liking or commenting on their tweets helps their algorithm and at the same time gets your name out there.
The talking in other peoples chats is an iffy one since you don't want to be known as a vchatter, however saying one or two comments can show that you are interested in their stream and make you a potential raid target in the future.

Nino doesn't even try to do anything in relation to networking. He doesn't like ghostbin chuubas (despite being from here), he doesn't go to other chats, he's pretty much on his own completely and that's how channels die. Also the other anon made a great point that you need a weekly schedule if you want people to know what you are doing all week.

It's more accurate to view vtubing like basketball, but with the genders reversed. IRL, the top and most famous basketball players are going to be men. The women basketball players are not necessarily less talented, nor less hard working, but they just aren't going to be as famous and there isn't as much as a demand for them. Of course they can still make a career out of it, and do well for themselves.
With vtubers, it is flipped. The top vtubers are going to be girls, but that doesn't mean that they didn't work for it or didn't earn it, and there aren't thousands of unpopular girl vtubers that just never made it.

Just like Hololive fans think that Risu or the homostars are doing bad because they only get 1k viewers, this thread is totally skewed by the thread buff. The average male vtuber is averaging 1-3 viewers. You're doing an amazing job as a male vtuber if you're getting 10+ average viewers. People getting 20-40 are top tier, and anything above that is quite rare and either results from good talent and marketing (Ais Riale) or a preexisting Twitch/Youtube/Twitter fanbase (Takahata and Merryweather)

Yeah, it's been mentioned before that most streamers on Twitch or YouTube - and that's all streamers, not just vtubers - don't have any consistent audience at all. 1 in 50 have 10 or more viewers, and the quality and clout you need to go up from there increases linearly. Most of our chuubas, male or not, are doing great. But to be famous and/or make a living streaming, you need to be better than great.
