male streamers > female vtubers > female streamers > male vtubers
in terms of popularity
guy streamers get 40k average viewers because they are actually good at games and funny
women get less viewers deservedly, but put on an anime avatar and suddenly the money and views roll in
guys put on an avatar and suddenly they drop off the face of the earth
basically why is it okay for girls to be vtubers but not guys even though guys make for better streamers?

Pretty easy to math out here, the target market wants to see a cute girl who is also entertaining and good at video games. It's almost impossible to find someone who meets all 3 criteria, but an average/unattractive woman who meets the first two criteria can use an anime avatar to fill in the gap.

That isn't true at all. 4 out of the 5 top female streamers were non-vtubers. That Valkyrae chick has 150k people watching her each time she streams. Gura only managed that one time almost three months ago.

you guys should really specify that you are talking about western vtubers when you make these threads, there are a good number of guys that are competitive with the females in terms of viewership on the Japanese side

>"They were perfect for each other. He was strong, brave, intelligent, heroic, honorable, funny, and empathetic, and she was pretty."

All girls need are looks, and 2D/animated ideals > the real world. They pay for a cute model, and they can rack in the simp bucks.

Men need skills, both socially and in terms of ability. However, the guys that want to become vtubers AREN'T the same guys that are pro-level FPS players or whatever. They are loser nerds that just don't want to show their face publicly. So to make it as a male entertainer, you have to actually develop skills, whether it be for gaming, singing, playing an instrument or whatever, and after that, they don't have any incentive to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on some avatar, when they could just start streaming. The problem is that male vtubers don't do that part, they just act like women and prioritize their avatar first, which is why they'll never grow.

I don't think its quite like that? I mean just taking a quick look through their most recent streams Kuzuha 25k, Yashiro 18k, Kenmochi 18k, Kanae 17k, Fuwa 12k, Mayazumi 11k, Ibrahim 10k, Shibuya Hal 10k and there are plenty more than manage perfectly respectable numbers in the 5-10k range. You can buy products with some of these guys faces on them in regular convenience stores all over Japan. They have sell out concerts and talk shows, they get on TV and on CDs that top Japanese charts, host streams with hundreds of thousands of people watching. It's not nothing.

Kuzuha was literally the most watched Vtuber in Japan for the month of January for the third time in his career.

Holofags atm aren't even interested in vtubers, they're only interested in the shark loli and they barely even watch her much more talented genmates if you look at the VOD viewership.

My prediction is that some EOPs of hololive that actually watch the JP branch will get bored of the yuri baiting as the year goes on and you'll see Holostars subscriber count and viewership slowly rise.

imagine limiting your audience to people that are autistic enough to actively watch vtubers, and thinking that a male would be appealing to most of them

>> No.270084

My theory is that Western VTuber fans got into VTubers through Hololive, a female idol project. So it's all weebs, ironic simps, and actual simps. It's a primarily YouTube audience who have some bizarre animosity towards Twitch and aren't big into other streamers.
In Japan Nijisanji got big first and it's much more normie targeted, and there's an actual big overlap between the NicoNico audience and YouTube audience so they'll happily get into whichever streamer is entertaining.

>> No.270497

The difference isn't as stark in Korea/Japan/China/Taiwan, male vtubers also roll in a bunch of views. And it is not just a female audience, but also guys who enjoy them as entertainers. I'd mainly chalk that up to Westerners still being polarized by stuff that is perceived as weebshit (with increasing exceptions). You generally either consume a lot of it or you consume almost none, and vtubers mainly appeal to the former demographic.

But there is a still a discrepancy, and I think it has to do with viewers that use streams to satiate feelings of love/lust, rather than just use them for entertainment. This audience is very sensitive to rejection or disillusionment of reality, and so are more eager to pick up female vtuber personas as a preferred ideal over "regular" female streamers. Also exist for male vtubers, but my hunch is that more male viewers are a part of this trend than female viewers.

>It's a primarily YouTube audience who have some bizarre animosity towards Twitch and aren't big into other streamers.
Pretty sure it is less animosity towards Twitch as a platform, and more:
1. Hololive simply being on Youtube, so that Twitch isn't really a part of the equation.
2. Youtube being the default video platform, so streamers are able to net in a previously untapped group of viewers who didn't previously follow streamer culture.
There is animosity from vtuber fanatics towards 3DPD streamers on twitch, but that's more to do with the streamers than Twitch itself.

>and there's an actual big overlap between the NicoNico audience and YouTube audience
About as much as Twitch and Youtube. In fact, it was popular for streamers to multi-stream to both Twitch and Youtube until Twitch banned affiliates from doing it.
The story is that Youtube was relatively late to build out their streaming platform, which gave Niconico and Twitch time to capture subcultures and get them used to features/interface that Youtube wasn't interested in providing. However, as Youtube's streaming service has achieved technical parity, its much larger latent userbase allows it to grow much more rapidly and establish itself as a streaming site for subcultures as well.
The long-term trend is that Youtube will increasingly eat Niconico and Twitch's lunch, unless some unexpected strategy or variable intervenes.
