Yomi was beautiful in that, but I still postulate that Yuka can probably pull a banging Kaf cover.

Don't disagree, and at a certain point it's far more about who's voice and style clicks for you then anything objective. Yuka certainly has that haunting, breathy voice that's similar to Kaf in some of her slower songs.

What hopes and/or dreads do y'all have for when Cover debuts their EN VSinger(s) (if they even chose any, that is)?

>> No.2733179

>>2732951
I hope for an AZKi who speaks English, both in matching her singing quality and output. I'd love it if she manages to spread some of the good Western songs within the vtubing community for singing as covers/karaoke. I am a little afraid that she'll steal the wind from AZKi's sails who's finally starting to get the support and recognition she deserves, though.

>> No.2734100

>>2732951
I want someone whose musical ability is genuinely impressive, and I would be disappointed if the person Cover recruits for this role is merely on the level of "I like singing, have a nice voice, and did chorus in HS." Also, as far as how this new VSinger is managed, I hope that Cover has noted the reasons for the success of Suisei and Calli and encourages this new Vsinger to participate in other activities that let her audience know what sort of person she is. This would seem to be an obvious thing--that people are going to be more likely to like your music if they like you as a person--but it's really not. Look at how many of the VSingers out there don't do anything to inform their audience regarding themselves. It's not an issue if you're only doing it as a hobby, but it's a serious mistake if you're trying to become successful.

>> No.2735138

>>2732951
>Hopes
On top of real skill and talent, variety is one thing I'm hoping for. Since they're EN, they probably will have a bit more of a western flavor so it kind of goes without saying that they'll bring something new to Cover the same way Mori did. I also hope that they're "modular" in the sense that they're not afraid of working with others in and outside of the company to produce the music they want.

>Dreads
Tribalism (though that's a bit par for the course for /vt/). Overlap in style might cause overshadowing as >>2733179 mentioned too.
On a more personal note, I'd be a bit disappointed if they shift a majority of their focus towards games and become just another holo talent rather than cement their status as vsinger. I'm also not really a hip hop/rap person so...

>> No.2735232

>>2735138
Would be counter productive to have two hip-hop artists and no traditional singers who're putting out music, so I doubt we're going to end up with a second in a similar genre to Mori.

>> No.2735449

>>2734100
But are they vsingers if they do stuff outside of singing/music? Wasn't someone asking in the previous thread about what exactly a vsinger was?

>> No.2735633

>>2735449
I mean, I don't think anyone is going to argue AZKi or even the other Holos who put out original music are not vsingers, even if they stream other stuff as well, a large majority of the time in some cases. I would say the big defining criteria for being a vsinger would be making original music, or studio level covers at the minimum, while having a virtual stage persona they use, even if they blur the lines a bit like ぼっちぼろまる. Just my opinion, though.

>> No.2735969

Imho, as long as they create original music and have a virtual avatar they are vsinger for me. And there's nothing wrong about doing other stuff too, even those who focused on music like Azki and Hachi have streamed other things than music

I'm interested in learning abit more about this, did they have an announcement about EN VSingers or something?
Also how the fuck would it work considering Hololive is consolidated now, will they just be part of Hololive except they don't stream as much?

>> No.2737108

>>2737021
They had a call for applications that closed at the end of January, so debut is probably in the next month if it's the same timeline as previous Holos. As to what to expect, no one knows, since they're not going to be a separate branch, most likely, and AZKi is transitioning into streaming more often, even if it's just once a week. Most logical guess is someone who streams less, does karaokes more, and also puts out songs fairly often, but it is just a guess.

>> No.2737230

To expand on this (>>2732951), seeing how hololive has been a gateway for many into VTubers (at least, for those who choose to explore beyond hololive), would the EN VSinger serve a similar role for the VSinger sphere? Or perhaps has AZKi's 72 hour marathons been enough?

>>2735449
For me, as long as their primary focus is performing music (originals/covers), that's good enough for me. Any other areas of the music production process is a bonus. Any other activity is fine as long as it doesn't take away from their primary focus.

>> No.2737259

>>2737021
>>2737108
I would imagine they would just be under INNK with AZKi, since that is the music label part of hololive production.

>> No.2737284

>>2737230
Is there an overlap between vsingers and utaites? I assume not because my sister is into utaites and she knows more about the JP Apex crowd than vtubers/vsingers.

>> No.2737359

>>2737230
AZKi's 72 hour streams clearly haven't made that big of an inroad in bringing the Western and Eastern vsinger community together, despite the couple of anons in this thread. The biggest demonstration of this is the simple fact that outside of HoloEN, there was zero Western vtubers who submitted a song to it, even though we got some Taiwanese and JapEnglish songs.

Maybe the EN Vsinger will change this, but it depends on how much she interacts with the two communities and given how touchy management has been about indies interacting with HoloEN, that's not a given.

I assume that their VSinger is going to stream similarly to how a normal member does, just that music is going to be a focus of their activities. The reason why Cover is specifically recruiting a VSinger is most likely because of how the balance of Holomyth turned out. Think about it:
>Ame: Terrible singer
>Ina: Only a little better than Ame
>Kiara: Not the worst but not good either
>Gura: Pretty good on some types of songs, but doesn't really have the voice or musical training for dramatic or serious songs.
>Calli: Good at rapping, but lacks the skill to sing difficult songs well. Making efforts to improve.
Adding someone who's focused on singing is a good complement to Holomyth; what's more, it pays to specifically recruit for it because streamers with strong musical inclination and ability are probably comparatively harder to find in America than they are in Japan.

>> No.2739592

>>2739409
Given how much time is taken up by working on music doing things that are going to be inherently offscreen, there's no way she's going to stream as much. Mori streamed far less when she was working on her EP, and a full album would require that to happen over a longer period of time. I can't imagine that the Vsinger is going to let herself get beat by AZKi on output, so I'd expect a couple of short streams every week at most.

What is the logic behind this sort of decision? I have never really got it. Is it because they are in the way of the music which is what the want people there for? But even so I think they probably draw more people in to the music than the effect they might have of taking people away from it.

>> No.2741881

>>2741820
I assume they don't want to hurt the engagement numbers on their music by having a bunch of gaming streams, since Youtube doesn't know that those are two very different things when it comes to the algorithm. You also train people to not care about getting notified about the channel having new content on the subscription bar if it's a bunch of game streams they don't care about when they only sub to you for music.

Are there any western vsingers? I know some have good karaokes like Nina but I don't know of any that released originals (not counting holoEN). About there being no western songs in the showcase, it could partially be due to low exposure/reach as I didn't know about it happening until a few days prior.
Honestly, I think it might be more of a cultural difference with karaoke culture in Asia vs. the west, with western vtubers sticking more towards the stereotypical streamer activities since they're more comfortable with it.
Do you guys think there's any other cultural differences that cause this split in behavior/activities in the west vs. east?

>> No.2744685

>>2744210
I think you have a bit of a point with cultural differences. People who were vsingers like Bao dropped singing (in the format of proper covers, originals) because the amount of effort doesn't bring results as much as frequent low-effort streaming does. It's more about finding what you want to do - I mean, Ninas actual focus is self-improvement. Bao seemed to want to monetize more and put less effort in. If your goal isn't a career in singing you aren't going to focus on singing. I think in the West people are just pragmatic like that, there is no real requirement to it like in the East.

I guess with Japan they already had a thriving video uploading covers singing thing rooted in otaku culture going on with utatite. It doesn't take much of a leap to go from that to vsinger. Very close to being the same thing in terms of the content. In the west there really isn't anything like that though is there. People upload covers of songs they do but there isn't some entire community based around it nor would it be associated with otaku shit if it was. It's more of a leap to go from being some normal girl uploading her covers of whatever western pop music they like to becoming a vtuber.

I'm sure there are a bunch of small time indies with 1k subs that I'm also never going to find, but the other anons are certainly right about the lack of karaoke and cover culture culture meaning that you don't have most Western vtubers doing anything related. However, that low exposure/reach is 100% the point about the two communities being completely seperate given how many of the Japanese channels were also 1-10k subs that were also featured on the event. We need an ambassador to sort of unite the twos, or at least open diplomatic relations, and Mori is too worried with destroying someone's lottery ticket level chances of getting into Hololive instead of boosting them in their current situation to do that at the moment. Most notably, despite participating in the Festival, she didn't tweet or talk on stream about it at all. The most she did was to like a couple of Boogey's tweets from day 1.

>But the pool of talent is much larger in America when it comes specifically to singing ability.
Yes, absolutely. The problem is not in the size or existence of a population with the requisite ability but finding and connecting with them. Vtubing is an Internet subculture that has only existed for less than four years, and it didn't start to become more widely known in the West until last year. The kind of person who wants to make it in LA or on Broadway and has spent years training to be able to sing beautifully almost certainly doesn't know what a Vtuber or Vsinger is and therefore is not going to hear about or apply for the position. Meanwhile, the kind of person who knows all about Vtubing and specifically wants to become a VSinger is less likely to possess the level of musical inclination and ability to live up to the promise of the title. Despite these challenges, we already know that some of the applicants for the position are really strong, so I'm not overly concerned that Cover will pick a dud. We'll see though.

Yeah I don't like the whole private everything culture they have over there as an archivist myself. The nips are obsessed with the transitory.
It's another thing entirely if Brave is forcing them to do it though, cause then I wouldn't be able to tolerate it.

I mean, you're unlikely to catch a ban for doing so, so go for it. If you want to be extra safe, you can always phrase it as pertaining to a question about vsingers to make it 'on topic'. Just don't post about a certain one who released a stellar single from her new album this morning.

Is this VRchat?

>> No.2784713

>>2784649
Yea. Like half the videos during Don't Stop the Music were recorded in VR chat, and a lot of them were psuedo-Lives like that.

That's a pretty cool way of using vrchat.
My only experience seeing vrchat before was the korean military bird, hamburger country clips, and jerma poking around vrchat.

Mhmm, though the coolest thing is that once you've got your 3D avatar, you can make a passable MV with pretty much zero work, even if it's just a static shot with some filters thrown on top like Kaf used to do for covers. Honestly, it takes a decent amount of expense and work out of putting out music.

I actually did like the main singer's voice when I heard them before. I just got filtered by the recording quality on most of their stuff and the simple fact that I've got more music then I can listen to at the moment.
