The issue with otakmori isn't that he's bad at translating, but that he ignores objective criticism of his translations and justifies his mistakes with the classic "WELL THE DICTIONARY SAYS..." line that shitty translators always fall back on.

He is clearly a hack feeds shit through machine translation and then interprets it to the best of his ESL english ability. No translator worth their salt would actually translate THE Budoukan (that big octagonal building in the center of Tokyo city) as "martial arts stadium" in this context.

As for good subbers, look for the ones that make longer videos with more effort put into them focused on a couple vtubers like crippling depression, Shabbysubs, Peko Subs, Felix712, Hilmi K, Maple Leaf Translations, JShay and Jin Teramachi.

Channels with a high output of low effort short clips released the same day as the broadcast tend to be shitty. Watching them is fine if you need your cute noises fix but don't base any rrats off their videos because they're not much better than machine translations.

The big thing that sets the decent subbers apart from the shit subbers is how often they acknowledge any mistakes in the comments.

Sadly, most people are just going where the algorithm tells them to go. There are lots of good clippers that put in a lot of work in editing and translations on youtube that have less than a couple thousand subs. The only thing you can really do as a viewer is to subscribe to the ones you like so you don't miss any good content in a sea of 40 second long cropped hentai thumbnail out of context holoEN sex moans.

Absolute madlads like peko subs and VTuberBits are translating and editing whole game playthroughs and movie streams with pitifully low view counts and no monetization because they actually like the streamers they translate.

I don't really "look for clips by clipper". I noticed that there's a lot of shitty clippers with terrible TLs, and eventually youtube's recommendation algorithm tends to steer you to the popular clickbaity clips regardless, until that's all you see.
I've had this RSS reader installed for ages, so if I find a clipper that's consistently putting out decent content I tend to add their channel feed to the RSS reader in a "vtuber clips" category. Once a day I visit that category and pick whatever I'm interested in and ignore the rest.
It solves a few problems that I find annoying about Youtube, the first one being the algorithm prefering to steer you towards "trending" clips, and the second one being that sometimes youtube simply won't show you a new video from channels you're subbed to because you haven't been watching their content regularly.
It works for me

If you don't know any Japanese then just watch whatever clipper, I don't see why you'd bother "tier-ing" them, who even pays attention to the channel even. If you know Japanese, then who cares you don't have to read the subs. Just take what you can, or do it yourself.
