What is /asp/?

A thread for aspiring vtubers! Whether your goal is to make the journey as an independent streamer or to gain experience and build a portfolio for agency auditions. Let's help each other grow and make it. Indies are welcome to selfpost, but shill responsibly. Share your knowledge, insights, feedback, discuss what has worked and what hasn't worked for you. The general rule of thumb is Twitch if your content is primarily based on livestreaming and YouTube if your content is primarily pre-recorded and edited.

First, ask yourself if you would watch a streamer of your skill and experience. Second, do a check on social media and look to see if other streamers are already creating similar content. Don't limit yourself to vtubers, include traditional real life streamers to scope out a potential audience.

In general i don't get why people would do collabs like this. I tried it and said yes once and found myself in a discord channel with 15 other chuubas playing an SCP game that i had no idea how to play so i had to leave after an hour. I rather talk to chuubas in private and arrange some game session with at max 1-2 others. But maybe the Chaos is what some some guys love.

4-6 is the sweet spot for games like Jackbox and GTA, since it gets really difficult to pay any attention to the conversation with any more people.

Being invited to a game that's built on having many players having multiple separate conflicting and merging interactions is pretty normal. The difference is in games like that you're being invited as a player, not to "collab" or whatever.
Also sitting in a discord channel with 15 other people is a lot different from actually talking to those 15 other people in the discord channel instead of seperately with the games voice proximity.

Just spent over an hour looking at parts for a PC that would run me under $1300 and it makes me nervous to spend that much money just so that I’d have a pain-free computer. Like, I don’t play many games normally to have enough confidence in my ability just to stream games to make it worthwhile. Plus I’d barely be able to afford a decent microphone that’s available when I’m done, let alone a boom arm for it.
The more I think about it, the smarter it might be to sacrifice the potential for being able to play games on stream in order to be able to play instruments on stream, or even buying an ASMR mic down the line since those have more possibilities.

One thing that has gotten me some success is dropping your stream's link in various discords when you go live. There are communities for vtubers, streamers in general, specific games/genres, and even specific streamers (big or small). There's not a quick fix, you're going to have a lot of streams that you think fucking suck before you get where you want to be.
Start marketing on twitter, follow smaller vtubers if they follow you, get to know people. You can raid them and they can raid you, it helps to at least get your foot in the door that way.

Make youtube content of some sort, it can relate to what you do on stream if you want it to, but it is an actual boost believe it or not. I had a yt vid pop off and get 15k views and it got me quite a few new followers, and just in general people will pop in and be like 'love your youtube!' n shit in chat. Snagged a few regulars this way.

Review your vods. Are you bored? Guess what, your hyperactive viewer is too. Pump it up a notch and be talkative or just interesting. Those are both relative qualities, some people might vibe with you some might not, but it's not about broad appeal, it should be about getting the viewers who like you for you. That's why you cast a wide net with youtube + twitter marketing. Tiktok seems to work for other people, but I've not tried it yet, so maybe give that a shot too.

And good luck! Trust me, having a stream where you feel like you're doing good only to get 2 avg the next day fucking sucks, but keep pushing forward. If it is meant to be, it will be.

I kind of think schizoids might be pretty common among streamers, and vtubers probably even more so. Many of them, perhaps even the majority, seem socially isolated in their real life to an extent that suggests some kind of mental illness or personality disorder might be at play and the other personality disorders that could cause this level of social isolation (avoidant pd or social anxiety pd) would cause such a high level of anxiety while streaming that I think it unlikely to be caused by those two normally.
