What is /asp/?
A thread where we discuss our vtuber aspirations! Where it's agency-based or independent, let's help each other grow and make it as entertainers. Indies are welcome to join, but shill responsibly. Share what knowledge, insights, what works/doesn't work for you. Remember to do your research before providing personally identifying information to companies online!

I wanted to try streaming paradox grand strategy games as a vtuber but it seems potentially way too political for my tastes. like i can just imagine getting cancelled over expelling the Jews in ck2 or getting doxxed by a /pol/tard for not being fascist or whatever. no wonder there aren't many other chuubas doing this. too bad it's such a minefield because i'm genuinely a huge history nerd but i can't imagine talking about anything past the medieval period without someone getting mad

Being a chuuba, you cannot be seriously threatened if you make sure you keep good OPSEC. If you have good amounts of history knowledge you can make a fantastic stream.

When you see people cancelled it's usually really big dudes who have already gathered tons of haters. Nobody cares enough to ruin a small chuuba's fun as long as you don't make blatantly antisemitic or racist comments.

How do you make yourself "entertaining?"
I want to be able to share games I love with other people but i don't know how to draw them in and get them to stay aside from just making interesting conversation when possible. How do you bros do it

>> No.3343696

So around the end of January, someone made a thread for people aspiring to audition for bigger companies giving advice. At some point, someone going by the name Idol Hopeful started replying to people giving advice about getting started and also posted her sockpuppet stream account to do her reps and answer questions live; she was also the one that created the name /auds/.
I believe it was at some point in the middle of February that she posted a link to her stream to wvt and some trolls came into her chat immediately calling her a tranny and she also said some really weird stuff ("I raised you all!" in regards to /auds/) and I believe she also name dropped amber glow in her last stream

>> No.3343756

>>3343428
Every entertainer has a niche, a type of content they’re good at
Your job is to find out what that is
For me, I’m good at stream of consciousness commentary, random tangents, and also speaking about stuff that I generally enjoy (like songs, YouTube videos, channels, etc.), while occasionally (or more than occasionally) cracking a joke. I’m also pretty good at chat-based interaction (though this is only really with observation from others)
I’m also good at other things that I don’t do often, like presentations
What sort of streamers do you personally like to watch?

>> No.3344197

>>3342663
I wish you the best anon! What stage of the audition are you on?

>> No.3344398

>>3344197
Only the second stage still, but I don’t believe anyone is on the third stage (interviews) yet; supposedly Akio Air reviews all first stage auditions multiple times and still chose to accept me to pass the first stage so that makes me feel excited, and they apparently take far longer to do the second stage (which makes sense since they’re looking for people who would fit) so I’d expect to wait a week or so to see if I’m going to pass on to the third stage
I feel like my answers were good however, so chances are I will get into the third stage IMO

Tell me about your design, chuuba. Did you make it yourself? Did someone help you? Did you ask an artist for advice? Did you aim for sexy, cute, cool...? How do you feel about it? Do you think fanartists will dig it?

>> No.3346606

>>3346262
Designed by myself with minimal feedback and will be rigged by myself too, aiming for cute, I think I got it down at least in my own standards and what I wanted it to represent. It's incorporating ideas that I haven't seen in any other chuuba but it's still got plenty of weeb/cutesy tropes, so I really hope people will dig it once the stream context starts applying, and I'll be making my own art of it too either way.

I think I decided that I'm going to work on two different youtube accounts at once. One for Vtubing and another one for another type of content making that's along the lines of weekly video production that has nothing to do with Vtubers. I feel like doing something like this would have me greatly improve my understanding of the youtube algorithm as well as my video editing skills, thumbnail making and video title generation. I'm currently working on my non-vtuber channel first and once I get some videos up I plan on commissioning a model for myself.

>> No.3347302

>>3346262
>Did you make it yourself?
Yup, based it slightly off myself as well
>Did you aim for sexy, cute, cool...?
I went for simple but also some elegance in the design
>How do you feel about it?
I'll be honest, I think I may have went too simple with it, especially since the (temporary) VRoid model I'm using is missing some of the clothing. Like, I like the design, but I don't think it'll stand out too much, but I'm not sure how I could add to it while also adhering to the original theme.

Do what actors and voice actors do, read a book outloud and try to make the passages engaging. This website has some interesting exercises you can follow https://iwanttobeavoiceactor.com/

Another thing you can do is plan out content pre-stream, practice delivering it and than during your stream you deliver lines/jokes with a stronger punch. One of the most interesting thing I've watched on youtube/twitch is this thing called marketing monday by the head of Nvidia's global PR manager where he basically makes a PowerPoint presentation about marketing and business offstream and delivers it live to his audience. https://youtube.com/watch?v=g1cCRxpHxuw

>> No.3347908

>>3346262
Did you make it yourself?
Yes! I did the design myself. And drew it and everything.
Did someone help you?
I got feedback from friends. But 90% of it is just things I like.
Did you ask an artist for advice?
Not so much for advice. But little quirk changes. Like removing clutter.
Did you aim for sexy, cute, cool...?
I aimed for cute and deceptively simple.
How do you feel about it?
I really like it. I think it's unique enough without being sparkle. I stayed away from tropes I don't like personally, and embraced tropes I want to see more of.
Do you think fanartists will dig it?
I think so.Or rather I hope so. It's got a nice tasty color palette and ticks all the boxes of dopamine for me. I'm very happy.

>> No.3349924

I drew and rigged it myself, it took a few failed designs but it's alright. The rigging could be better but I'm pretty happy with what I got, since I have never used Live 2D before. I am aiming for 1000% cute and feedback suggests that it is working. I could not be happier with how it is going so far, it is a concept I haven't seen anyone else do yet and I am very satisfied with how the face has come out. As far as fanart is concerned I don't really know; I have put in a lot of cute little details that I think artists might find fun, but it might be overloaded to the point where drawing it all feels like a chore. frankly I think my character is wasted on someone like me, but I am so attached I couldn't bear to give them to anyone else.

It doesnt look close enough to be infringment anon. It's just what people are going to assume because gura did it first. Also I already settled on blue and white for completely different reasons. Views aren't everything obviously, I'm going to stream regardless. It's my personal goal to get to an average of 20-30 viewers, anyone here have any tips?

I've been streaming drawing and stardew valley, and depending on that day I'll start at either 2pm or 4pm est. I have a fully rigged model I've made myself, decent audio to normie standards, and my own overlay I've made. I do my best to not be too quiet for too long. it can be cheap, $100-$200 but those are either amateur rigs or people that undercharge.
a decent rig will cost you around $500 for a full body. some pretty good riggers have their prices around $600-$800. the best of the best charges $3-4K.
is it worth learning how to rig? perhaps. do consider that you will have to pay for live2d unless you manage to learn how to rig models in the free version and use the trial for your actual model. the free version is very limited! I would not recommend it for your actual model unless you only rig head and not full body. then it might work.
learning how to rig takes quite a bit of dedication. on the top of my head you have to learn how to draw and make meshes, how parameters work, how deformers work, deformer hierarchy and how to make that work, the texture atlas, the physics and making physics look good, general idea of perspective so your model looks and feels natural and not like paper, the animation tool if you want extra animations, how to set it up in face tracking, live2d viewer tool for expressions if you want extra expressions. ultimately if you plan to make money off it, learn it. if it's to save $500? just get a good rigger to do it for you. it will take you more time to learn how to rig a model that looks half decent than time it takes to make $500.

30 people is already a small classroom of people- a room full of people. That shit ain't COVID safe, but you're entertaining 30 people.

10 people? That's like... a conference meeting, or the entirety of a medium-sized friend group. That's more friends than some people will ever have the capacity for interacting with on a regular basis.

Outside grand strategy being really niche for viewers, you can definitely play them without being political as long as you aren't focusing on certain things like you mentioned. Like myself, I want to learn grand strategy but I don't care about any countries at all, I just want to create huge navies in games because I love WW2 naval combat.

I highly doubt anyone would raise a fuss anyway. The only people to bother would be doing it to cause a shitstorm and that only works with notable streamers.

I've been doing the same thing now for almost 2 months now because I'm waiting on my artist to finish the character. I'm not even using a human PNG yet, I'm one of those animal tubers but instead of a human character I just have this meme fish body that I'm using
I have a crisis of identity and don't even feel comfortable marketing myself as a vtuber in any way because everyone else I see either has (1) a human character or (2) a rigged model. Haven't been trying to really network nearly as much as I could or should be because of this impostor syndrome too
The only things keeping me going right now are sheer willpower, faith in my artist to make it in time for IV's May 20th deadline, repeatedly convincing myself endlessly that using this time as streaming experience will pay dividends later, and the 2 chads who have been coming to basically every single stream I've done in the past month
Hang in there.

I definitely get that, and it's something I'm coming to terms with at this current stage
I guess if I had to describe it I just feel... stuck? I've been planning out so many things that I want to do but I feel like I can't "waste" any of them on the pre-model streams I'm doing right now, if that makes sense. I have a huge game backlog I want to stream, I've been keeping track of life things and building a deck for zatsus, I'm practicing songs for karaoke, I'm thinking of batsu games and other more interactive-type things to do, but it just feels like none of it will really work until I get that model. It's a giant catch-22, I probably irrationally feel like I can't make this new content until I get bigger, but then I can't grow more without a wider variety of content
Like, the only things I'm streaming right now are Monster Hunter Rise and 3U. MonHun will still be the core of my content even after I get the model but these two games are really starting to stretch thin at this point.

What does "being active on twitter" entail? Retweeting other chubas? Posting random fridge thoughts? Something else I'm not thinking of?
I'm asking because I never really got into social media as a kid and now I feel like I'm playing catch-up figuring out all the details of how it works. I basically only use twitter to post schedules/stream announcements and occasionally respond to the couple of people that I'm following right now

>> No.3487750

What hashtags do you normally use when tweeting?

>> No.3487883

>>3487737
Retweeting only starts making sense once you have followers. Similarly to YouTube, one of the tried strategies is finding an account that has a specific niche, and then interacting with the followers of that account. Specifically, you need to provide answers to questions people had, but that weren’t answered in the other creators content.

So, the way to think about it is this.
Who are you a fan of? Could you add to and improve their work, and how?

This is why people advise you to hang out in the streams of others, comment sections and forums.

>> No.3488025

>> No.3488187

>>3488025
But that’s the thing, you HAVE TO pilfer others viewers! Where else will they come from? All chuubas are fighting for an audience, and the audience either comes from another content creator, or it‘s newcomers to YouTube/Twitch. And to capture the latter, you have to already be on the „recommended“ page.
Don’t feel bad about it. You may be bringing people something they didn’t know they wanted, and not have them settle for the second best similar alternative.

I tweet 1-2 a day, sometimes short skits and png edits.
I've built my viewers from other communities. there are many on twitter and almost every other game has it's own community. just stream games with an existing community, advertise to them and some of them end up sticking around.
