It seems like an obvious idea but to my knowledge no one has done it yet. Take characters with a big fandom, make a vr rig, then have the seiyuu voice it for a cut of the profits. Just doing video games or whatever. Think how much money you could make having rie takahashi voicing megumin on minecraft videos etc. But as usual the retarded nips leave money on the table

When you can clone Rie Kugimiya you might be able to do this
Until then there's no way a popular seiyuu will waste their time and money on this.

they did with Gold Ship from umamusume
It's probably difficult to reconcile the creator's vision for what a charater should be with what the seiyuu would want to say as that character

These kinds of things were done in the past, like Super Sonico was a V-tuber for one point, and I think they even did it for School Days last year.

Popular Seiyuus make around 80-150k USD per year with only ones that make it big in music being higher https://rank1-media.com/I0000324/&page=0
A lot of the holos probably have over 10,000 members which by itself is 600,000 a year. Taking into account the youtube cut (30%) and Cover cut (50% of the remaining) that's still ~210k USD annually. If we include superchat income, it's even more

>>3623411
The problem with characters becoming vtubers imo is that vtubing is actually a very demanding job in terms of time commitment, and I doubt you'd find a seiyuu willing to go on for long enough to penetrate the market. If you don't build momentum and constantly produce content, you'll quickly phase out into obscurity. It's not something you can do while also holding onto a full time seiyuu job.

anime characters ARE their voice actors. If their voice actors don't want to do it/are way too popular to do it, then why would they?

That said I remember seeing something about a Lina Inverse Vtuber sometime ago for some one-off stream, idk what happened to that.

I think you underestimate how much money the average VA gets for a starring role playing a character popular enough to get a vtuber. It's way more than the peanuts vtubers make now in superchats. They get money in contracts and additional work which adds up over time.

Unfortunately, VAs don't actually make that much money from their actual VA roles. Anime in Japan just don't make enough money to pay all the staff well, VAs included. Any extra money made from getting lucky and making a hit show is reinvested into the company to make more shows.
The VAs that make good bank are those that are successful with another gig using their popularity as a springboard. Even then it's usually not that much since the cuts the music industry takes are usually terrible for the performer

It's been happening occasionally with promotions. Uzaki has been playing around with it for a couple years now, even before the anime. This one is around when the anime aired: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOooviF33Y0

Also they're selling tickets to experience Lina Inverse as a Vtuber through both a VRChat concert and twitcast.

https://gugenka.jp/event/slayers_event.php

Last thing worth mentioning is some seiyuu such as Azusa Tadokoro have simply started doing streaming on their own, without any real need to use an avatar.

>> No.3626079

>>3625549
I don't think VAs make that much off of merch either. If it's merch for a character they voiced, it's not the Seiyuu, but the merch manufacturer, anime production company, and original source author (if applicable) that will get the cut. If it's an album that they released, it's their record label that would get the most significant cut. If they pivoted to being an idol, it'd be their idol management company that gets the biggest cut.
Based on https://heikinnenshu.jp/creative/seiyu.html the average income for a VA in their 20s is $15,000 a year. It's only the ultra popular voice actors that even break over $100,000 a year. Even Kanahana including all her concerts and roles in anime is estimated to only make $150,000 a year. Only gods like Hayashibara Megumi that made a huge break in the music industry can make $700,000 a year.
I personally think they deserve more, but that's just how the industry is

There had been vtubers based on anime characters ever since. Karen from Sister Princess also doubles as Dengeki's corporate mascot. There's also African Penguin and Humboldt from Kemono Friends who just debuted a few weeks ago. Heck, even Hello Kitty is a vtuber ever since the Kizuna Ai era and is still active to this day.

a vtuber would come off as too fake if they try to impersonate an anime character, it's way too hard to act out a role like this and not mess up if you're doing it impromptu for an entire duration of a stream and seiyuus pretty much never do that sort of thing.

Was reading a manga about a female NEET (Neeko wa Tsuruyo or something like that) and a decent amount of chapters into its run, she becomes a Vtuber...
...and the manga gives a link to her youtube channel. It was real. It ran (or is still running) concurrently with the events of the manga. Pretty sick.
