There's been a lot of good shows that have released in just this year, the average quality of shows has risen tremendously. Unless you only watch anime for escapism then you should not be bored with anime in the current season.

That's not it at all. Christianity encourages you not to just accept your station in life as a put upon victim, but instead take resonsibility for your own growth and improvement.
The religious texts can be seen more as parables that when you reach an understanding of can them be instructive and applied to your life in ways that help you live healthier and happier.
You could argue that this could argue that this could be achieved without religion, but for many what we've seen in this day and age is filling up this void with pseudo-religious victimhood cults like with the idpol crowd. I'd argue that the path to self-improvement is better captured through religion than secularism for many people.

To me, and to many Christians, the essence of Christianity is struggle against sin. I struggled with the sin part myself, being a militant atheist earlier in life, but I can accept it as an allegory for self-improvement. We all sin as we all do things we know aren't best for us, but it's the acknowledgment that introduces that little bit of a struggle that can lead to self-improvement and a happier life.
