Cover, for all their faults, understood that you need to cultivate a fan base to be dedicated to their talent in order to have them drop oodles of cash and show up to events. Thus they chose to follow the idol model to instill the idea that you need to support your oshi and her story, as well as her peers and their stories. They make you relate to one and constantly have that one interact with others to make you relate to them (and want to financially support them) as well. They actually promote their talent even when they're not top talent and actively try to boost all of their individual events and constantly reinforce the idea that they're all in it together as opposed to by themselves.

Nijis sorta do this as well, but it feels more... disjointed? It's almost as if AnyColor doesn't want to involve themselves and just lets their talent undergo the Darwinian model of survival.

Actually I was glad to be introduced to them. I check out their content every now and then and they are fun.

The nice thing about Hololive is it's like a SOL anime where every minor character not only has a backstory, they have their own 7 volume ongoing manga. I love HoloEN collabs but seeing them branch out keeps it fresh. Hololive works in much the same way the Avengers worked. You might not care that much about Antman but you can enjoy his best moments without watching all his movies, and having big events like Endgame is only possible with a well developed cast of characters. It's not the only way to do things but it's obviously working for them.
