Yeah, I've already got a couple of prerecorded videos up. I think I'll keep at it with some more lecture based videos and see how I feel after a month or so.

>>4281277
I was thinking of just using a Powerpoint and making sure all of my effects and such were set up in that. I hope to aim for videos that are sub 10 minutes long, so redo-ing a take won't hurt as much. But yeah, I'm pretty shit at video editing, so I don't want to deal with that.

Alright, I have no idea if any of you are interested in this but I've been trying to figure something out
So I got my it set up so my stt can type in the tts, but I couldn't figure how to have automatically press the hotkey to make it go
so I got VoiceBot which lets you use macros with your voice & have whatever hotkey the tts uses to a keyword, then when you're speaking you end every sentence with the keyword you set to make it go

the problem is you'll need to have the tts textbox focused on all the time, I need a way to make it work in the background
also I don't have a good stt I've been using the default windows one & it's awful

Should I be concerned about the kind of model I choose? I'm a dude, so I'm already gunna have a harder time than a woman in Vtubing, so I figure just a generic anime boy avatar probably won't do very well. I was thinking of a simpler, 2d model, kind of like the chibi ones Hololive used on their April Fools stream. Another quick question. If I intend for my character to be non-human in nature (Not furry bait type, but I was thinking of a chibi/cartoony anthropomorphic animal character) would such a design type affect the facial tracking at all? that's gonna be whack af for your rigger to try and make it work. make sure they're comfortable rigging non-humanoid characters first. live2d rigging is done through deformation, so it's basically squishing, stretching, and morphing the art to imitate movement.

while it shouldn't have an issue with face tracking, the problem would be more with the rigger being unfamiliar with non-human shapes. so they may end up charging you a lot more for it.

I feel like I'm going to have an aneurysm. I bought a new computer to stream, and it has bad DPC latency, so the audio crackles (input and output) every now and then. I paid quite a bit of money thanks to the shitty market right now. I tried to fix it myself with all the methods posted online, only to now be past the return date and with barely any improvement. I either have to pull what I can out of this machine and build one myself, or place my hope in Lenovo's tech support. Neither is very inspiring.

>> No.4309927

>>4309557
I'm a retard, so I may be completely wrong, since most of this knowledge was gained in the past month from browsing forums perpetuated by autists and ESLs. But: bad DPC latency is when a CPU core has too many things going through it, and something eventually has to lag. If the audio lags, then both input and output will drop very noticeably (audio drops and it crackles for about half a second to a second). I haven't streamed with this computer yet, but since the audio affects output as well as input, I'm assuming it would be noticeable for viewers as well. Even if it isn't, it's really annoying to me, and shouldn't be happening (this is usually a problem that happens on shitty laptops, and this is a desktop with an i7 and a 2070S in it).

>>4310001
Thank you! I'll try these. I've tried downscaling and bumping up the process for the game itself with some improvement (basically making the time longer between audio hics). I'll be sure to do the same for OBS as well. I've also tried disabling power saving settings, uninstalling/reinstalling drivers, messing around in the UEFI, the whole bit. Not him but it's important to consider the overall target audience. Vtubers are a sort of separate sub-set of streamers/content creators, and for the most part a lot of people attracted to it are initially looking for "cute anime girl doing X" in their streams. Whereas for IRL streamers males are kinda the 'default' and females get harassed a bunch, in vtubing males kinda just get ignored. I don't think the issue is as bad as some here make it, and I believe that over time it'll even out for the most part.

In the end however, all that matters is how entertaining you are, but getting eyeballs to the stream in the first place is a bit easier with a cute design (and most male vtubers use horribly boring bishie designs which doesn't help).

from the guy's end it really feels demoralizing because you can see potential possibilities just dry up for no reason other than you're a guy

There was something similar in regular twitch streams where women were complaining that guys would not host them or collab or raid them and do you know what happened?

Part of the problem is the "pure girlfriend" thing is kinda engrained in the culture, and thus a lot of fans get their panties in a twist when "their" girl interacts with a guy in anyway. The pure idol culture is goddamn cancer, and its fans (and anyone else relying that much on a streamer as an emotional crutch) often are the first to flip out and trash their "oshii" as soon as something happens. Hi anons, so I've been interested in VTubers for a long time now and after contemplating it, it's something I'm interested in trying out. It doesn't have to become a sort of career or source of money (although of course that would be nice, but I'm not banking on it) but I'd like to at least be entertaining and have a stream that people will consistantly come back to.
I was advised to drop by this thread for some questions I have, so sorry if these are already things that get thoroughly discussed.

1. Do I have to network with other chuubas? I feel like a nuisance butting into other peoples' streams or twitter threads without bringing much to the table. I feel like I'm being rude and blatantly advertising.
2. Do I need to have a cutesy/high pitched voice or put on an act? I'm a femanon but have a semi-deep voice compared to most other chicks I know, plus a heavy Australian accent, and I'm extremely mellow and get exhausted when acting easily so I don't want to have to use gimmicks (like voice quirks and stuff).
3. Do I need to sexualise myself in order for people to be interested/stick around? My model is already showing a fair bit of skin but I mean in the way of mannerisms and shit. I'm not against it, but I don't want to have to stoop to the level of those whiteboard or hot tub streamers.
4. How do I not focus on the viewcount? I'm really bad at ignoring that kind of stuff and I feel like I'd get dejected easily if nobody was talking to me.
5. Does having a cute/comfy aesthetic and quality screens and assets draw in more people? I've already commissioned alert art, BRB art, my model, and am making the overlays by myself.

Thanks in advance!

1. No, but it makes the experience easier and friendlier. Networking will grant you retweets and raids, expanding your audience.
2. No, plenty of femtubers out there without mickey mouse voices.
3. Nope. Plenty of non-sexualized femtubers out there. Very successful ones, too.

5. Yes.

>> No.4327779

I can give you some advice on at least a few of those, despite not debuting yet myself.

As far as your voice goes, I wouldn't say you need a high-pitched voice at all. A woman with a deeper voice can be charming in her own right. Ladies like Towa or Mori from Hololive have pretty non-traditional voices for anime girls, but a lot of people dig it. Plus, I know of several people who are actively turned off by some Vtubers because of the anime-ish voices or high pitched tone being off-putting and preferring a more realistic-sounding voice. It can definitely work. As far as sexualizing yourself, first off don't ever feel compelled to do something you aren't comfortable with, second, while I'm sure you'll inveitably get some simps or coomers in your audience, there are plenty of ladies who don't really lean all that much into sexuality and still do fine. You can, of course, flaunt your femininity, but being outright sexual isn't necessarily needed I don't think.

>> No.4327810

>>4327603
1. Networking isn't absolutely necessary except for trying to get twitch raids from others as they will recognize you. You don't need to be super close, just let your presence be known. Getting viewers relies more on advertising and being able to show your strong points on demand to new viewers.
2. ayy aussiebro- er, sis. Gimmicks are unnecessary as long as you carry yourself well, just remember to engage with your audience instead of thinking only to yourself and you will find your audience.
3. Not necessary, sounds like you don't want to attract that crowd anyway. Charisma is what gets people to stick around first, sexual personality and appearance is just a very cheap way of getting people to watch, see VRChat people for examples.
4. Turning it off helps, but if you want to keep talking to people then make sure you can retain the people coming in by again, engaging with them.
5. Just something that's generally appealing and inoffensive will make people more likely to watch you. I personally don't watch Krimbo or whats his name because despite the quality there's very little actual general appeal, but he's comfortable with that act so whatever.

Thanks guys! This makes me feel a lot more confident. I'm still a bit paranoid that I will be nervous when I first start streaming. I think I'm going to practice playing video games and talking to myself.

I want to do variety stuff, like video games and art. Only problem is I'm really shitty at drawing anime, which is what I see everyone else do. I'm also mostly interested in really niche games and I don't have a capture card right now so that's kind of a pain in the ass, I guess I'll have to force myself to play shooty games or something.

Also I still live with my family and I'm worried that they'll pick up on my mic or something. Would decent noise reduction on a mic work for that? All the rooms of my house are really close together and the walls are pretty thin. Or will I just have to schedule it around them shutting up

As far as sound goes, you'll probably just have to ask your family to quiet down when you stream. While it doesn't do much to isolate outside noises, you can increase the quality of your audio simply by creating a recording booth of some sort. I myself have a booth made from pvc pipes and covered in sound-dampening blankets I purchased. That does cost a few hundred though, so if you can't afford that, you can situate your mic underneath some pillows and thick blankets in an enclosed space. This helps to reduce echo and other unwanted sounds.
