Unfortunately outside of Pekora and Miko there's no other Holomem who has a fighting game in their game rotation, and the former is nowhere to be seen and the latter is an assist. Mori and Ina played Strive like more than a year ago and it doesn't seem like they're interested in making it one of their staple games, and then you have some of the Stars like Oga and Flayon but then it's going to be weird when the only people playing your game are the members who aren't playable and possibly will never be.

The only way I can see them ever including Rushia outside of a cameo is as an assist because it makes no sense to make her a fully fledged fighter over any other Sankisei member. Coco makes sense in a way since the game has been in development since mid/late 2020 and she was most likely one of the first characters they worked on, and she also left under good terms so it's not as controversial as adding the girl who was fired.

personally, if I was limited to 8 characters, I simply would've not put in a graduated member. Literally anyone would've made more sense and also would've made it more likely the members themselves would play it. Now it's just going to be awkward because whenever they play it, they'll constantly have the graduated member show up since there isn't many characters to play against. It's the same reason why the people who made the hololive FNF mod had to make another version of the game that replaced Aloe with Fubuki instead.

Skullgirls started with 9 characters. Them's fighting herds started with 6 characters. And I'm not even talking about nichier games like FoA or Punch Planet.
What matters for a fg's longevity is gameplay, content and features.

This is not a triple AAA game,is a indie one,dont expect a big group of playable characters, holocure also started with low playable characters when released,probably if this game is well received it will have updates with new playable characters

Who cares about mainstream. The initial statement was about longevity in the FGC. Aka for people that actually play the game. And despite the only 8 playable characters, the game gathered a community that made people keep being interested in the game for 10 years. DLC are still releasing to this day, despite all of what the game went through with the Mike Z stuff. It's the biggest case of an indie fighting game keeping itself relevant throughout the years.
Now if we were talking about sales and getting a big audience the story would be different. But that's not what the initial Anon said.

Starting roster makes no sense really. There is no theme or logic here. It isn't going by popularity in many cases but it also isn't going by anything else like pairs.
Botan and Watame, Korone and Okayu, Suisei and Miko and then Marine and Pekora would have been a good roster that also contains most of the really popular JP members.
