4chan's old culture was two-fold.
On one side; people would get together to discuss things, present ideas, do stuff (alone or otherwise) and show off their work. The site's most notable effort was getting together to investigate real, criminal activity and working together to see real criminals put behind bars.

The clout-chasing trend birthed here where anonymous users could bring their own justice on others with little worry of consequence - which would then eventually spread off-site and spiral out of control on all forms of social media.
4chan was flooded by people seeking the rush and as soon as things started being labelled 'problematic' they would take their newfound culture elsewhere and spread it. So now, more sites are like 4chan in such chaotic respects than ever before. Such people are the lesser anons, whether they've taken up a name or not - they took the shit with them wherever they went and spread it.

A misreading in my opinion. The key factor of the old culture was a pure level of irreverence, people complaining about icky things would by called moralfags, even those dog murderer saviors has edgelords calling them moralfags back in the day. In my experience, when I see anons complaining that they're being censored, or that they can't say things anymore, they're largely seeking to dodge the natural consequences of what they say. For example, complaining that you've been banned from a videogame because you kept yelling nigger. You haven't been censored, you've broken the terms of a non public forum's use. Freedom of speech is not freedom from consequences, and platform holders are within their rights to police the speech allowable on their platforms.

I will be up front and say that I'm not convinced unrestricted free speech is a virtue, also, but I am also not a classical liberal, nor do I pretend to be. I appreciate the discussion, anon.

If a person at some point in time was /here/ and then went on to denounce things from /here/ because somebody decided to dig stuff up about them to stir trouble that would impact their livelihood, it's natural that a person would be inclined to want to clean off the perceived 'dirt' of the masses. Whether they denounce it or not would result in massive drama either way since both sides are occupied by the very same people who'd come here to chase that rush and take it elsewhere.

Yes but you attribute moral value to these consequences when there is none at all. It is just power games by groups of society vying for domination.
