Propping up their bodies for voiceless (or god forbid, edited old recordings) animations is one thing, but not doing reissues of merch that they could still be producing and that would easily sell is just leaving money on the table.

That said, the headache of who gets what for the merch sales is probably not worth it. You might be able to get some former holos to agree to simply getting a commission percentage in the mail every month and spin it as her old fans get to have another chance to get some merch to remember her by, but others might be too tough to work with.
