I have 2 questions though I don’t know if anyone here has an answer. The current 7 members and a few of the girls that are gone why did they apply to kawaii? I could be wrong but a good chunk would fall into the range of Myth to Ethyria and I could see them beating out certain members. On the flip side what is Kawaii’s scouting team? Lua was invited for gen 1 but declined but came around for gen 2 after seeing Isla's king cover. I think she said it proved kawaii was the real deal or something.
Shee was sent an invite to audition but she thought itwas a scam until her brother looked into it. As a side note I think Shee has seen the best change from joining the company compared to her indie days.
Nami is autistic and wanted friends in vtubing which she said was fairly hard to get as a 1view indie.

Indies nowaday simply send out mass application to every small corpo because it's a number boost from their current indie status. They typically don't think whether they can fit in the corpo vtuber environment or not and the changes that will come going from indie to corpo. Especially now, every debut in small corpo comes with a debut buff (unlike re-debut as indie lol because it has been done to death by now). Instead of spending money for a re-debut indie, getting in a small corpo is a much bigger break without investing in a good quality new model.
Then, Kawaii, as a jp company, run closer to small jp corpo (including small corpo jp streamers) rather than other small corpo in the west. They probably do have more rules and demands for their vtubers because they want to maintain good image, not only to viewers but also other professional 3rd parties in the background. Also, since Koshita always has an idol goal in mind, that means more company resource going into developing the idol project rather than just growth from streaming. Idol is still a relative niche in the west, despite of the popularity of Hololive. The work involved in idol project is not something western vtubers are used to doing or even interested in because many just want to stream and get dono. Even if Kawaii doesn't require the member to participate in the idol project, opting out of the project simply means you opt out of potential support of the company. That probably the main thing that didn't go well with gen 3 from my hunch of the situation

Failing to make myth during interview stage is not really something that result from just a "bad interview" performance. Hololive is pretty insane in size and very competitive to get in after all.
