Vtubers don't make $300K/Y

If anything Vtubers average between $0 - $1000K Depending on *Simps*, Sponsorships, Coporational Money Laundering and more.

Also as usual. Expect most *1-20 Viewer Vtuber* to be broke as fuck because of lack of support from viewers and over-dependance on Freemium content instead of *subscribed Content*.

Median in this case is the value where half of vtubers make more and half make less. Given the massive number of vtubers who aren't even monetized my guess is the median vtuber actually makes no money at all, and if they do make any money it's only a tiny fraction of what a person needs to live on. 90% of vtubers (or hell streamers in general) have less than 10 viewers, they make jack shit and if you'd do a honest accounting it's a net money loss. Which is fine if they just do it for the hobby fun and don't have any aspirations of actually quitting their dayjob where they certainly make more per hour.

The magic threshold where you become "self-sufficient" (as in, you can afford to live solely off of streaming - mind you, not become "rich", but you can at least pay everyday bills like rent and food etc and streaming is as or even more worthwhile for the hours invested than just working a normie dayjob) depends on some variables.
What are your income requirements to be able to stream full-time? Do you live at your parents' home (no rent) or how much other expenses do you have to service? Do you live in a high cost of living area or in some third-world mudhut? Depending on that you can make do with a lower five-figure annual income or not.

You can look through some charts of those vtuber aggregate websites that track that shit. Sort the list by SC income (of course, SC's aren't everything, so depending on how generous you are you can double these figures for total income including merch, memberships, sponsorships etc), and count how many vtubers meet whatever your arbitrary magic income threshold is. Maybe in the low hundreds, and even that distribution is heavily lopsided (a very small few at the top make most of the bank, then there are some who barely make do, and then there's the long tail of unwashed masses who make fuck all), out of the thousands of vtubers that exist.

It's always funny that for an average normalfag "vtubers" means "hololive + nijisanji + vshojo + 1-3 smaller corpos they're aware of". It literally takes a few seconds to check the "vtuber" tag on youtube and twitch and discover a vast fucking ocean of desperate 1views. Many of them stream consistently for *years* remaining at best low 2 views. They don't even consider it a bad thing because it's a hobby for them and they're content with it - otherwise they would've quit after a month or so.
Even bigger vtubers can end up in a net negative. Your average utaite barely earns shit because releasing a single fucking cover song can be multitudes more expensive than getting a live2d model+rig. Then there're hobbyists like Suvidriel, who, despite having very decent numbers for an indie, spends a fuckton of money on vtuber gear and a fuckton of time on vtubing software, which can be downloaded by anyone for free.
Talking about live2d+rig, this is where the real money are in this industry. Since there's a lot of wannabe vtubers, there's a huge demand for models. Skills wise making a model is actually not difficult at all for an average artist, neither is learning how to rig. It all comes down to just how much time you're willing to spend polishing it. Both artists and riggers charge hilariously exorbitant money for their product even if it is subpar at best because wannabe vtubers and their audience can't tell the difference or don't care in the first place.

98% of them make peanuts and need a side job. These are youtubers; not Hollywood mannequins. Things aren't that lucrative for the idols even at the very top.

Let's look at HoloLive as an extreme example:
Depending on source-estimate, only ~30% of the Superchats actually go to them. Ditto for Memberships. (Anyone who's ever had a consignment job can tell you that's actually generous. Usually you get 10-20%) And they technically 'have' a salary but it's the same sort as tipped employees like waitress where it's entirely eaten up in taxes and you're supposed to live your tips. And, as far as merch goes... some of the girls are unaware they even 'have' merch sometimes, which says enough about how little, if any, of that trickles down to them. Corpos are only really lucrative for the shareholders.

So, to put a number on this, let's go to Hololyzer and look at Kronii just to pick an example.

+ Let's assume, as mentioned earlier, that her regular salary and her taxes cancel each other out. (That's usually the norm for commissioned or tipped employees and makes the calculation much easier.)

+ So, Kronii's median SC ranking is ~¥250,000 or ~1,700 USD.
+ Let's assume the generous 30% cut; 30% of 1700 is 510 USD.
+ Let say she streams biweekly, so 8 streams a month; 510 x 8 = 4080 USD per month.

+ Now, for memberships. The highest number of members ever seen on one of her streams at once was 1890 for her anniversary, which is probably as close to perfect attendance as it's gonna get, so let's just say 2000 is the norm.
+ Monthly membership is 5 USD. So; 5 x 2000 = 10,000 USD monthly from her regular members.
+ Again, let's say her cut is the generous 30%. 30% of 10,000 is 3000 USD.

+ So, we add 4080 from SCs to 3000 from memberships to get an income estimate of $7080 monthly.

+ There's 12 months in a year, so 7080 x 12 = An annual salary estimate of 84,960 USD for Ouro Kronii.

And this, I remind you, is at the VERY top. I guarantee you that no vtuber, not even Gura, has ever made $300k annually. There's a reason why half of these girls still live with their mother.

tl;dr: If you plug the math, the holo idols are turning about the same salary as a mid-tier white collar job. I was making about the same as Kronii's estimate during my own stint as a corpo scumbag. They're not poor, but a far cry from rich.

The key word in the OP is median. The median is not affected by the top earners at Hololive having an outstanding year. Therefore, the median earnings of vtubers are nearly identical to the median earnings of any other streamer, and is measured somewhere around pennies.
Remember that 99% of vtubers never break 100 views and struggle to make pocket change. There are thousands who have attempted.

>> No.57676824

Anon... the median is defined as the value at the 50th percentile position (i.e. middle) of a distribution. So, if you yourself admit that "90% of chuubas make 0 bucks", it logically follows from there (because the 50% position is within that 90%) that the median a vtuber makes is zero (or more generously realistic, penny amounts that are functionally equivalent to zero), and not "300-500 bucks" which by your own estimation would already be in the 90-97 percentile.

And even if you've confused "median" with "average" (sum of all values divided by occurances), like so many do, well even the average earnings of all vtubers would certainly be less than 300-500 viewers. Yes, there are a few at the top who make some bank (but even that is often overstated - the absolute top of fleshstreamers can make multiple tens of $millions per year, while the absolute top of vtubers make "only" one or lower single-digit $million, mostly because they are corpo and the company makes the deals for them and takes its cut, compared to free fleshstreamers who can make their own much more profitable deals) because there are just soooo many thousands of ngmi 1view and 0view vtubers that they drive down the aggregate average back to a pitiful sum and even a few good earners at the top can't skew the average too significantly.

Superchat data is publicly available. Chat data is also available here (last update August 2022): https://github.com/sigvt/vtuber-livechat-dataset

It can be used to estimate the monthly number of members.

In 2021 Gura generated about 1.3M in revenue from superchats and memberships alone. 30% cut of it is about 400k.

In the same year Pekora generated about 1.6M.
Coco: 2.2M
Rushia: 2M
Lamy: 1.3M
Watame: 1.1M

Mori: 1.1M

You are completely forgetting revenue streams that aren't streaming/memberships, aka merch and sponsorships.
I do not have the numbers to state how much they swing it up or down, but each vtuber tends to have 2 merch runs where they partially fund it for a greater cut.
Of course, this is hololive exclusive and shouldn't be applied to Niji.

1. kronii is far from the top
2. gura, kiara, and mori made a million in super chats alone their first year and I don’t mean yen
3. Your math for members is retarded because you can check likes or polls on recent post or more accurately their emote slots which correlate to member count
4. You’ve ignored ad rev which for someone like Gura who gets 99% of her views from actual vods is tens of thousands per month
5. You’re ignoring merch which at the minimum is 100k per run because most do a limited of 1k-5k at $80-$140 and sell out that limited run. And that just means the hand written signature is gone you can still buy the merch.
So even at a 30% cut of all them Gura’s first year is $300k supers, $108k in members (minimum 5k), $144k in ad rev (USA), and $24,000 (Minimum price of 80 and 1k limited) all while assuming she’s only getting 30% for all of these. Look at that first year minimum is $576,000 and the keyword is minimum. Last year her birthday broke an in company record this year her and pekora sold thousands of expensive figures holding the top 2 spots for a full month. And probably the most important part the top 20 members brought in 60% of the company’s income with number 1 bringing in $5.6 million alone. They obviously don’t take that home but even at 10% that’s $560k and at 30% it’s $1.6 million. Retard

>80% is an exaggeration you know hyperbole and you want to know why I know that because she wouldn’t be able to afford the expensive houses she bought with only 20%
Cuckbeats are so retarded there’s a literal slam dunk in the fact that you have her lifetime superchats but you’d rather make yourself look dumb.

The median income for a vtuber would be "maybe enough to get mcdonald's a couple times a week" aka like $500 a year and that's generous. There are thousands of 1views who have like 10 subs/members and get like 0-10 donations a stream and this is assuming that 1view is streaming a ton of hours most of the week i.e actually-trying. A 1view streaming like once a week or some such, who knows if they're even noticed at all.

2views still probably don't make remotely enough to live on and make either almost-nothing still or "enough that it counts as a side gig" like 1-5k a year I'd guess.

low 3views can maybe make some money and because 100-1k is such a spread probably a fair few 3views can live off what they're doing by this point if not make a lot actually if they're coomer or GFE farmers many are at that point. The ones who insisted on some ugly model/unattractive content, insist on doing things the vtuber audience commonly doesn't like usually don't ever get to this point to begin with.

4views I'd assume should be able to make it, even if they have low visible donations the subs/memberships are doing heavy lifting at this point in the background more likely than not. Even so, if someone has 200 members that's like 1k a month pre-cuts and I only think of the top corpos and indies as having memberships numbering in the thousands (probably wrong there).

No he is wrong their is no global societal standards when every country is different. Yea I’m sure Japan is worried about vtubers making them look bad when it’s normal to decapitate gays in the middle east or Canada’s extremely enthusiastic assisted suicide and lets not forget Europeans arresting you for bad words. Anon, Gura is literally at the top of Hololive. Do the same math for an average Hololive talent and you'll see they're barely making more than a West Coast Coding Monkey.

holo income boosts come from the merch, of which they get some unknown cut but apparently it's substantial because Coco mocked the hell out of nijisanji's 2%. so we know it's not 2% at least, let's say it's 5-10% as absolute lowball (could really be more like 20-30+, members have openly said the merch is actually the best way to support them).

gura's dino plush was known to have brought in millions to Cover all by itself. if it's like 5m and Gura got 10% that's 500k. off just that stupid little plushie. there are also voice packs/nendoroids/the random knickknack crap like acrylic stands etc too. basically you can at minimum double the calculations based on that, for Holo in specific, assuming the girl is getting consistent merch.

Tourist here, does 2view mean 0-99? 3view 100-999? Seems kinda excessive to get 1-5k for 40 viewers

Fillian makes way less than that but why did you bring up Amoranth her streaming revenue would cap at 2.4 million? Onlyfans isn’t streamer revenue or are you going to add in porn stars as well? Most of them make less than streamers so that would skew them even higher

>Almost every single member does limited merch 2 times a year
>Limited merch goes from 1k-5k
>Even after that it’s still made to order
Bare minimum $69 with the minimum 1k limited is $42k a year. Mid range is $90 with a 2k limited which is $108k a year
This is no superchats, members, ad rev, sponsors, and no performance fees just merch alone with a 30% cut (it’s actually more than that). Barring the Homos the only way you make less than 200k is if you try to screw yourself.
*ID is currency might as well be rocks so while not technically reaching that level their standard of living puts them at the upper end

2view is two digit, 10-99. they probably make nothing, but a few of them (the types that might actually go on to grow further and stream consistently) may have a couple whales and even a single whale can pretty much pay a girl's rent if he's really-trying. a handful of whales would keep her set because sometimes they'll try to compete with each other for her attention, although it's a delicate situation assuming they'll all keep paying at that rate - can the girl maintain that level of interest, and is the whale's income itself sustainable to support her on. some whales are burger flippers maxing credit cards and can't actually sustain it for long trying to look impressive to groom her, and some actually-have money and throwing 50k a year at someone is doable, even jobs considered just middle-class like nurse or electrician actually can easily do this.

Gura is the definition of an exception to every rule not just in Hololive and you’re being dumb. Standard merch like acrylics and shit handled by company like council’s outfit merch gives an incredibly small cut. Birthday, Anniversary, Special event merch (depending on the event) has the cost fronted by the talents so they get a huge cut. Voice packs are probably 50% like niji

>>57690198
You are correct that is 2 and 3 views. The average to above average 2-3 view needs a day job and a really good one because their stream income will at most be enough to pay for food and nice things like decently priced clothes. There are only 2-3 known exceptions to this rule and that’s Idol, Nene from Kawaii, and a few girls in Vreverie. All of them vtubers and all of them extreme gfe. There’s also Miori but she’s a rare case within a rare case. Streaming is a weird game because as a 3 view on youtube or twitch you range from nice side gig to able to quit your job but as a 4 view and I mean 1-2k people you could make a million dollars. 3 view in a corpo is better than on your but 4 view is objectively better your own good thing woman aren’t good at business or negotiations

For you folks trying to guestimate what size vtuber can make it, we can work backwards.

For a pre tax take home of 100k/y & assuming 50% split with the platform, the channel would have to generate about 200k/y in revenue. That is about 3,333 subscriptions per month on Twitch.

For reference, Shylily draws about >6000 subscriptions monthly.

In terms of YouTube, it is more common to have a 50/50 split between memberships and superchats.

For corporate Vtubers that take home say 50% of post platform take (25% overall). they would have to generate about 400k in revenue or about 6,666 in subscriptions per month. 2021 Roboco and Polka where around this number.

This of course does not take into account other sources of revenue or operating expenses.
