I also agree that she is, if anything, less clingy than she used to be. I think the biggest change I personally have noticed is that she seems to be more willing to make mistakes and bounce back from them. While I get that everyone's taste is different, I can't exactly get behind this mindset. Plot twists and novel concepts aren't something I inhenrently adhere value to by itself. When I hear people complaining about cheesy writing in JRPGs, I think most of them ignore that the mundane aspects of the whole can also be good for characterization and for the development of the narrative, specially in an immersive experience. Of course, not all JRPGs are gonna do this well and this is certainly not Kiara's mindset when she plays, but I think she gets some comfort out of these experiences nonetheless because they're meant to inspire nostalgia and longing. The problem is she is focused on the "heavy narrative" elements of these games and wants to progress the story faster, leaving behind the stronger elements of these games. This has happened clearly with Ryza, but also with Nier Automata and Fire Emblem, but less so with Yakuza. Even so, I love and enjoy those streams just to see Kiara interacting with the story on an emotional level, this makes for better content for me. Her Nier Automata ending was the most kino stream of the game I have ever seen because of that. And Ryza that already had a place in my heart, already got a bigger one when I saw that some things about the game resonated with Kiara even more than they did for me. Sometimes its just good to take things at face value.

One of the problems I personally have with the sort of by-the-numbers cheesy anime plots is that I can't really relate to them, nor do I see comfort in the escapism they represent. So it means that the only way that I personally will enjoy a plot of that sort is if there's something novel about it to think about. For me, it seems a little "safe", in the sense that the ideals of the story aren't really challenged or held up to scrutiny. If a story is to feel anything other than shallow, it should examine its ideals and put them to the test.
Of course, there are also people who just buy into the escapism of an uncritical work, and that's fine if they wanna do that. It's just not going to attract any attention outside of the specific people who are looking for it.

People can enjoy works that are in genres they don't usually go out of their way for if there's something novel to be found in them, and especially if that work allows them to think about a topic they're not used to.

The decision-undermining end aside it's a story about unity and working together where it is very clear very fast that Shepard will solve most problems thrown their way. But bad stuff does still happen and the path to salvation gets derailed and put into question.

We might get something good with Tales of Arise though. Tales of games are a bit inconsistent but their writing is usually above your usual JRPG blob.
Tales of Symphonia for example is a bit cringe if you are older than 12 but it asks some nice questions and has a good payoff for many of them.
